The Opportunity This position is responsible for ensuring quality, inclusiveprogram delivery with a focus on physical literacy, cooperative play, andconfidence building in keeping with High Five and Y Healthy Child Standardscurriculum. Direct delivery of child-centric development-based programming forSchool Age youth (ages 4-12) and championing importance of physical literacy inyouth as a cornerstone to building Healthy Communities. Responsibilities include: Plan, implement, and engage in physical activity promotingpositive development and lifestyle Create an environment that instills a sense of inclusion,safety and learning opportunity for youth Complete administration duties as required; includingcorrespondence with families of participants, ensure all program paperwork iscompleted on time, documenting as needed, registrations, and maintaining anaccurate record of attendance for the program. Create a positive team environment by illustrating coreleadership competencies, engaging in relationship building and creating a senseof belonging for all staff and members of the site. Consistently represent YMCAs values and purpose; complywith all YMCA Policies, Procedures & Best Practices, Child Safeguarding,Provincial requirements and Health & Safety regulations; includingcompletion of mandatory certifications. Use a variety of teaching techniques that include, but arenot limited to, modelling, observing, questioning, demonstrating, andreinforcing. Plan, implement, and assess developmentally appropriateindoor and outdoor learning environments for young children that supportemotional and social development, while understanding and encouraging positiveself-concepts. Develop relationships with external partners to enhancecare for children and families Ensure hours are inputted in Payworks before the deadlinesprovided by the Program Manager and/or Team Lead. Respond to parent and staff concerns Communicate program highlights and challenges with SiteLead and Program Manager Attend mandatory monthly staff meetings Being adaptable and available to be present at specificsites when asked by the Program Manager Other duties as assigned by Program Manager Qualifications and Skills Must have own car or reliable access to a means oftransportation. Highschool Diploma, or equivalent combination of educationand experience, with a strong reference. 0-2 years of childcare experience with demonstrableevidence of experience linked to the roles responsibilities Experience working with children Demonstrated success in plan/organize games, sports, arts,crafts, cultural activities, lead field trips, etc. Post-secondary education in Early Childhood Education orrelated field considered an asset Working knowledge of school system and community resourcesan asset Demonstrated cross-cultural communication skills to workwith youth, parents, and staff Demonstrated ability to meet multiple, competing deadlinesand priorities Strong attention to detail Excellent verbal, written, and presentation/workshopfacilitation skills Strong interpersonal skills including tact, diplomacy, andability to establish rapport with clients Intermediate Microsoft Office Skills Valid Nova Scotia Drivers License or access to reliabletransportation Flexibility to work outside of regular work hours on anas-needed basis We Offer Participation in Comprehensive Group Benefits and PensionProgram Strong Work Life Balance Programs (i.e. Paid Personal andVacation Days) Individual & Family YMCA Membership options Access to discounted childcare/program Note: Successful candidates will be required to provide acurrent and satisfactory Criminal Record Check/Vulnerable Sector Check, ChildAbuse Registry Check, and proof of valid First Aid and CPR training.
