The Internal Audit department supports SFU in achieving its mission by providing independent, objective assurance and advisory services that strengthen governance, risk management, and internal control environments across the university. It operates in alignment with IIA standards and collaborates closely with academic & administrative units, senior leadership, external auditors, regulators, and other oversight bodies. About the Role The Internal Auditor is a key contributor within SFUs Internal Audit department and reports directly to the Director, Internal Audit. This role leads and supports riskbased assurance and advisory engagements that assess the effectiveness of the universitys internal controls, governance practices, and risk management processes. By delivering clear insights and practical, valueadded recommendations, the position strengthens institutional resilience, supports informed decisionmaking, and contributes to advancing SFUs strategic objectives. The ideal candidate is a resultsdriven audit professional with a bachelors degree and a CPA, CIA, CISA, or equivalent designation (or near completion). With five years of progressive audit experience, they deliver highvalue insights through strong riskbased audit and advisory engagements, internal controls evaluation, and governance expertise. They think analytically, communicate with clarity and influence, and build productive relationships across the organization. Highly organized and adaptable, they excel in navigating complex organizational environments and consistently elevate audit quality, strengthen risk management, and support better decisionmaking. Full Job Description Qualifications Bachelor''''s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field, and a professional designation such as CPA, CIA, CISA, or equivalent (or near completion), and five (5) years of progressive audit experience, in internal and/or external audit roles or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Strong knowledge of riskbased auditing methodologies, internal control frameworks, and governance principles. Exceptional analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills. Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage with diverse stakeholders and present complex information clearly and persuasively. Excellent knowledge of internal control and risk management principles, including experience in financial, operational and IT systems audits. The pay range is the span between the minimum and maximum base salary for the position. The midpoint of the range is approximately halfway between the minimum and the maximum and represents an employee that possesses full job knowledge, qualifications and experience for the position.
