The Safe Mobility Section provides leadership toward the City of Edmontons efforts to achieve Vision Zero, zero trafficrelated fatalities and serious injuries. Endorsed by City Council in 2015, this work encompasses transportation and citybuilding efforts from across the corporation, as outlined in the Citys Safe Mobility Strategy. As the Senior Signals Engineer, you''''ll play a crucial role in shaping the future of our citys transportation network. Reporting to the General Supervisor, you will lead and mentor a team of signals engineers and transportation technicians, overseeing all aspects of traffic signal projects and programs, from initial planning and designing to construction and implementation. You''''ll be a key point of contact for the public and council, providing expert advice and representing the City at meetings. What will you do? Establish and exemplify the desired culture throughout the section that supports the mission and purpose of the Corporate Leadership Competencies Develop, supervise and mentor a team of professional traffic signal engineers and engineering technologists Develop business area and engineering processes, guidelines, design criteria, acceptance testing, and specifications for traffic control devices, traffic management and communication systems Identify, prioritize and coordinate the effective and timely delivery of annual capital and special projects and programs, including the establishment of scope of work, budget, terms of reference, and procurement documentation for contractors or professional consulting services Develop publicly transparent project prioritization and evaluation system that incorporates Safe Mobility Strategy principles and needs of various business areas involved in/impacted by traffic safety work Plan, align and assign projects in a way that maximizes the skills and internal resources available to support successful programs Research and use leadingedge technologies and Intelligent Transportation System solutions to improve safety and efficiency of the traffic signal systems Provide Citywide leadership and leading technical expertise in road safety and traffic signals engineering and act as a Citywide resource for the identification and mitigation of road safety issues on the Citys transportation network Balance modal priority within the road network for the safe and efficient movement of transit, people, bicycles and vehicles Review both internal engineering designs and external parties and consultants work Direct, assign and manage work of contractors and consultants for traffic signal construction projects Develop strategies, survey and collect data, and model traffic flows within the city to provide safe and financially accountable solutions to traffic congestion issues Assess and identify impacts of projects on traffic flow and surrounding network roadways; review signal timings to accommodate and mitigate impacts Address citizen and Councillor inquiries regarding traffic signals design, construction and operation Perform other related duties as required Qualifications Bachelors Degree in Civil or Electrical Engineering or equivalent from a recognized University, preferably with coursework in transportation or traffic engineering Must be a Professional Engineer (P.Eng) in good standing and registered with APEGA. Applicants in a different Canadian jurisdiction eligible for InterProvincial Mobility (IPMA) with APEGA may be considered. Registration with APEGA must be obtained prior to commencement of employment.
