JOB TITLE Human Resources Manager (Ontario, Canada) POSITION SUMMARY The Human Resources Manager is responsible for all HR activities for a workforce of approximately 45 employees, including hourly manufacturing employees, supervisors, and administrative staff across multiple provincial jurisdictions. This role oversees recruitment, onboarding, employee relations, training, health & safety compliance, benefits administration, payroll coordination, and policy development. The HR Manager ensures compliance with Provincial labour legislation, maintains positive employee relations, and supports a safe and productive workplace. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES 1. Recruitment & Onboarding Manage full hiring cycle: job postings, applicant screening, interviews, reference checks, and offers Prepare employment agreements compliant with the ESA Lead new-hire orientation and onboarding Maintain job descriptions and organizational chart Coordinate background checks or pre-employment assessments when required 2. Employee Relations Provide guidance to supervisors on performance management and discipline Address employee questions, concerns, and conflicts confidentially Maintain open communication and support a respectful workplace Conduct workplace investigations when required (harassment, policy violations, etc.) Uphold Human Rights Code and workplace policies 3. Legislation, Policy & Compliance Ensure compliance with: Employment Standards Act (ESA) Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA) Workplace Safety and Insurance Board (WSIB) Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA) Human Rights Code PIPEDA (privacy and personal information) Update employee handbook and company policies Track employee leaves (sick leave, ESA job-protected leaves, vacation, etc.) Maintain accurate HR records and confidential personnel files 4. Health, Safety & WSIB Work closely with the Health & Safety Committee and supervisory team Facilitate safety training, incident reporting, and return-to-work programs Submit WSIB claims and support modified duty planning Maintain training records for OHSA requirements and certifications Support JHSC (Joint Health & Safety Committee) meetings and compliance 5. Payroll & Benefits Administration Coordinate with payroll provider for changes, new hires, terminations, and deductions Track attendance and timekeeping for hourly employees Enroll employees in benefit plans and respond to benefit inquiries Support RRSP or pension plan administration if applicable 6. HR Systems & Reporting Maintain HRIS and employee documentation Generate reports on turnover, attendance, training, and recruitment metrics QUALIFICATIONS Required Diploma or degree in Human Resources, Business, or related field 37 years of HR experience (manufacturing or industrial preferred) Strong knowledge of Ontario labour legislation (ESA, OHSA, WSIB, AODA, HRC) Experience with hiring, onboarding, employee relations, and policy administration Proficient with HRIS, payroll interfaces, and Microsoft Office Preferred CHRP or CHRL designation (or working toward it) KEY COMPETENCIES Professionalism and confidentiality Strong communication and interpersonal skills Problem-solving and conflict resolution Attention to detail and organization Ability to work independently and support all levels of staff
