Job Description

Position Summary: Located at our 400 Fenmar, North York location, The Extrusion Process Technician is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of Multy Homes extrusion lines. This role supports our commitment to producing highquality recycled materials by ensuring stable processing conditions, consistent output, and adherence to all safety and quality standards. The technician will work closely with production, maintenance, and quality teams to maintain optimal machine performance and support continuous improvement initiatives. Essential Responsibilities and Accountabilities Equipment Operation Set up, start, operate, and shut down the NGR recycling extrusion line in accordance with Multy Home procedures and safety guidelines. Adjust machine parameters; including cuttercompactor speed, screw speed, melt temperature, vacuum levels, and pelletizer settings; to maintain stable and efficient production. Ensure consistent feeding of film scrap, regrind, and other materials into the system. Operate and monitor the Genox shredder as part of material preparation processes. Responsible for silo cleaning and emptying of equipment and related systems. Process Control & Monitoring Monitor melt pressure, throughput, pellet quality, and overall system performance throughout the shift. Make timely adjustments to maintain process stability and prevent downtime. Respond to alarms and process deviations promptly and effectively. Quality Assurance Inspect pellets for size, color, contamination, and moisture content. Perform routine quality checks and accurately document results. Communicate quality concerns to supervisors and collaborate on corrective actions. Troubleshooting & Maintenance Identify and resolve operational issues such as bridging, inconsistent melt flow, screen blockages, and pelletizer jams. Perform routine cleaning and basic maintenance on the cuttercompactor, screen changer, die plate, and pelletizer. Support maintenance personnel with preventive maintenance and equipment repairs as required. Material Handling Safely load, stage, and manage scrap materials and additives. Maintain proper contamination control and follow materialhandling best practices. Track material usage and report inventory needs. Safety & Housekeeping Follow all Multy Home safety policies, including lockout/tagout and PPE requirements. Maintain a clean, organized, and hazardfree work area. Contribute to a culture of safety, teamwork, and continuous improvement. Qualifications: Required Strong mechanical aptitude with the ability to troubleshoot equipment and process issues. Understanding of melt filtration, pelletizing, and polymer processing fundamentals. Ability to read and follow SOPs, production specifications, and safety procedures. Ability to work in a fastpaced manufacturing environment with physical demands. Preferred Experience operating extrusion or plastic recycling equipment (NGR, Erema, or similar systems). Direct experience with NGR systems. Knowledge of common polymers such as LDPE, HDPE, PP, and PET. Familiarity with lean manufacturing or continuous improvement methodologies. Education and/or Experience Onthejob experience operating extrusion, recycling, shredding, or materialhandling equipment is highly beneficial. Experience with recycling lines, Genox shredders, or silo operations is an advantage. Minimum 3 years of experience operating or maintaining extrusion equipment in a manufacturing environment preferred. Technical or vocational training in process technology, industrial operations, plastics processing, or a related manufacturing discipline (preferred). Associate degree in mechanical, industrial, or process technology is considered an asset. Experience with plastic, polymer, or metal extrusion processes is highly desirable. Experience troubleshooting production or equipment issues in a fast-paced manufacturing environment. Language & Communication Skills Ability to communicate effectively with operators, engineers, supervisors, and maintenance teams. Strong written communication skills for documenting production data and reports. Ability to understand technical instructions, drawings, and process documentation. Strong teamwork and problem-solving skills. Physical Working Environment Manufacturing and production floor environment. Exposure to machinery, noise, heat, and moving mechanical equipment. Requires use of personal protective equipment (PPE) such as safety glasses, gloves, and hearing protection. May require standing for extended periods, lifting materials (up to 50 pounds repetitively), and working in shift-based schedules (including nights or weekends). Fast-paced environment with strict quality and production deadlines. Technical Skills Strong knowledge of extrusion processes and equipment operation. Experience with machine setup, die changes, and tooling adjustments. Ability to adjust process parameters such as temperature zones, screw speed, pressure, and cooling systems. Knowledge of plastic/polymer materials, resin properties, and processing behavior (or metal extrusion depending on industry). Experience using measurement tools such as calipers, micrometers, gauges, and inspection equipment. Basic understanding of mechanical systems, hydraulics, and pneumatics. Ability to troubleshoot process defects such as surface defects, dimensional variation, melt fractures, or flow issues. Familiarity with preventive maintenance procedures and equipment diagnostics. Experience with production monitoring systems or manufacturing software (ERP/MES preferred). Basic knowledge of quality control methods and manufacturing best practices.
