About the Project The Connect 6ix project is a consortium-led contract responsible for delivering the Rolling Stock, Systems, Operations and Maintenance (RSSOM) package for the Ontario Line a new 15.6 km rapid transit subway running across Toronto. This includes the trains, signaling, communications systems, and the operations and maintenance facility. Connect 6ix will also operate and maintain the line for 30 years. About the Job We are hiring an Superintendent - Trackworks to step into a new role for our team on the RSSOM project . This position reports to the Yard Lead Superintendent What You Will Be Doing? Trackwork superintendents oversee the construction process and are responsible for overall construction activities related to Subway Track within the OMSF ensuring strict compliance with local applicable codes, design, budget and scheduling guidelines. This position will include, but not limited to, planning, scheduling, organizing, directing, controlling track installation activities on-site, and coordination with civil and building teams at the OMSF. Role and General Responsibilities Works with the Lead Yard Superintendent, and other OMSF teams as required to ensure implementation of safety program Coordinates all relevant inspections Supervise the execution of trackwork installation and actively coordinate the construction schedule with other site superintendents. Ensure seamless logistical sequencing, clash resolution, and formal workface handovers from preceding scopes - specifically earthworks, utility installations, and building structural teams. Supervise and ensure strict quality control for all track joining and destressing processes, specifically including Aluminothermic (Thermite) welding and Flashbutt welding. Oversee the precise assembly and installation of complex special trackwork, including turnouts, crossovers, and switch machines to exact transit tolerances. Provide training, instruction and supervision on ballasted track, embedded track, direct fixation and ballasted and embedded special trackwork construction. Manage the critical interfaces between trackwork and OMSF and MOW buildings. Coordinate installations and ensure compliance with Traction Power requirements (e.g., impedance bonds, OCS/third rail interfacing) and signaling/train control infrastructure. Maintain daily coordination efforts with peer superintendents to manage shared OMSF yard logistics, optimize equipment routing, and ensure trackwork activities proceed without disrupting concurrent civil or facility operations. Ensure the work is performed in accordance with design, budget and schedule. Take the lead on productivity issues and monitor work performance of employees and subcontractors to ensure project plans and schedule are followed, and project is executed effectively and within budget. Analyze and review project technical documents as delivered by engineering firms to ensure that terms of reference are respected and that proposed technical solutions are competitive. Ensure project materials and workmanship meet the project Quality Standards, ensure work is performed to applicable QA/QC standards and according to drawings and specifications. Complete daily reports and weekly reports showing progresses made vs resources used and take any proper actions to ensure we meet our targets. Monitor costs and ensure that established budgets for the project are fully abided for. Participate in meetings with client, subcontracted engineering firms, suppliers, operators and project owner. Provide leadership and ensure proper implementation of Health and Safety and risk prevention programs. What We Are Looking For? Minimum 10 years of urban transit system trackwork construction experience, including thorough knowledge of construction industry practices, methods and process and applicable standards with at least 5 years in a supervisory role or an equivalent combination of technical training and experience. Must have in depth knowledge of trackwork construction including ballasted track, embedded, direct fixation tracks and special trackwork. Demonstrated hands-on experience overseeing specialized track welding (Thermite/Flashbutt) and the installation of special trackwork (turnouts/switches/diamonds). Strong working knowledge of track-to-systems interfaces, including traction power, bonding, and signaling requirements. Proven ability to successfully manage complex site logistics, communicate effectively with peer superintendents, and coordinate concurrent activities across multiple heavy civil, utility, and structural disciplines. Experience applying knowledge of basic project controls, material management, contract management, subcontract management. A construction engineering related degree/diploma is considered an asset. Ability to allocate and direct daily labour and equipment activities. Compensation Successful candidates chosen for this position can expect to earn between $105,000-$135,000 .
