Department : Development Services Internal/External Posting Date : March 06, 2026 Internal/External Closing Date : March 22, 2026 2026 Hourly Rate (Level I): $38.58 after probation 2026 Hourly Rate (Level II): $39.68 after probation Hours of Work: 40 hours per week Competition No. :2026-18 POSITION SUMMARY Under the direction of the Director of Development Services, Capital Projects Manager, or designate, the Engineering Technologist (I or II) supports the planning, design, documentation, field review, and inspection of municipal infrastructure capital works, along with general departmental operations. Responsibilities expand in complexity and independence based on experience. KEY DUTIES PERFORMED Core Duties (Applicable to Level I and II) Assist with preliminary planning and data collection for municipal infrastructure capital works using CAD/AutoCAD and standard drafting techniques. Assist the GIS Technologist with the maintenance and updating of the Citys Geographic Information System (GIS) data and layers. Respond to inquiries from the public regarding municipal infrastructure records. Maintain records, service connection files, maps, and engineering drawings. Participate in departmental tasks and perform related duties as required. Progressive / Level II Duties (Assigned Based on Experience) Conduct surveying for preliminary design and layout using GPS RTK units and total stations. Perform detailed design work for municipal infrastructure projects using AutoCAD. Inspect municipal infrastructure installations and conduct field design as needed. Support project management activities including contract administration, contractor liaison, and interdepartmental coordination. Participate in Emergency Management training and duties. Perform all duties safely and in compliance with Facility Procedures, OHS Rules, Violence in the Workplace policies, and WorkSafeBC regulations including WHMIS and TDG. REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES & SKILLS Minimum Qualifications (Level I) Grade 12 plus a 2year diploma in engineering or building technology, or equivalent. Working knowledge of CAD and municipal engineering software. Knowledge of drafting techniques. Valid Class 5 Drivers Licence. Ability and willingness to work overtime and weekends. Ability to perform duties safely following all safety regulations. Preferred / HigherLevel Qualifications (Level II) Civil Engineering Technology diploma or related equivalent. Physical agility required for fieldwork. Ability to maintain effective working relationships with the public and staff. DESIRABLE KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES AND SKILLS Experience using surveying equipment (GPS RTK, total stations). Knowledge of ESRI ArcGIS Pro and foundational GIS skills. Registration with ASTTBC or progress toward AScT certification. Willingness to participate in training opportunities. Project Management Professional (PMP) certification is an asset.
