Position Overview Torus Talent is supporting a well-established engineering consultancy in their search for a Senior Mechanical Engineer to lead the design and delivery of high-performance, energy-efficient mechanical systems for complex building projects. This role offers the opportunity to work on innovative mechanical designs for commercial, residential, and institutional buildings across British Columbia. Working closely with project managers, clients, and multidisciplinary teams, the successful candidate will play a key role in guiding mechanical system design from concept through construction while supporting sustainability-focused design and energy efficiency strategies. This position is based in Vancouver and offers exposure to high-profile projects, technical leadership opportunities, and the ability to mentor junior engineers while contributing to the continued growth of the practice. Further Responsibilities Include the Following Lead the design of HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection systems for new builds, retrofits, and tenant improvement projects. Prepare and review design drawings, specifications, load calculations, and technical reports using industry-standard design tools. Provide technical oversight on energy modelling, equipment selection, and coordination of mechanical systems with other disciplines. Conduct site reviews during construction to verify design intent, respond to RFIs, and support commissioning activities. Collaborate with clients, architects, contractors, and project teams to ensure designs meet performance, schedule, and budget objectives. Lead internal design reviews and contribute to quality assurance and technical standards. Remain current with relevant building codes, standards, and sustainability frameworks. Mentor junior engineers and designers while contributing to knowledge sharing and process improvements. Ideal Candidate Requirements Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering (Masters degree considered an asset). 10+ years of experience designing mechanical systems for buildings. P.Eng. designation with Engineers and Geoscientists BC (EGBC). Strong experience designing HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection systems. Solid understanding of BC Building Code and applicable mechanical design standards. Experience using industry-standard design and documentation software. Experience with energy modelling tools considered an asset. Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities with a focus on practical, constructible solutions. Effective communicator with the ability to lead coordination across multidisciplinary teams. Interest in sustainability, energy performance, and efficient building design.
