Reporting to the Program Manager, Environmental Sustainability, the Environmental Consultant supports the development and implementation of MBLLs environmental stewardship strategy. The incumbent supports operations across the organization, develops, assesses, and implements new initiatives that improve resource efficiency and strengthen climate resilience. The position evaluates and recommends updates to existing programs to align emerging trends, best practices, and meet evolving regulatory requirements. The position collects, analyses, and reports on environmental data to ensure compliance in support of corporate disclosures and ESG transparency. Responsibilities Conduct research and monitoring of industry trends and best practices to inform continuous improvement and compliance at MBLL. Track regulatory changes and updates to reporting frameworks including IFRS, CSDS, and GRI and provide recommendations for compliance. Monitor global environmental sustainability trends and provide analysis on potential impacts to MBLL operations, reporting or compliance requirements, and reputation. Identify opportunities to support or participate in environmental sustainability research and innovation. Conduct ad hoc research related to program and situation specific challenges or opportunities for internal departments. Facilitate knowledge-sharing and collaboration with other Crown corporations, other jurisdictions, and other industries in the province. Provide advice and analysis to support the development of strategies related to environmental sustainability across the organization. Contribute to the crossfunctional development of near and longterm environmental strategies aligned with corporate goals using globally recognized climate frameworks such as the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI). Assist in corporate strategy development and business planning activities through the identification of opportunities (gap analysis), evolving federal/provincial requirements and standards, risk assessments, and exploration of continuous improvement scenarios for environmental sustainability considerations. Support the development of business cases ensuring that impacts to environmental sustainability, including cost benefit analysis and greenhouse gas emissions are accurately reflected, identify resource and reporting requirements to achieve projected outcomes. Assist in the development of MBLLs Situation Analysis, SWOT Analysis, the ClimateRelated Risk Assessment, and other relevant tools to support the integration of environmental sustainability metrics into financial management processes. Encourage and facilitate the submission of viable environmental sustainability initiatives by frontline staff by supporting open communication and effective collaboration at all levels in the organization. Champion Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) by integrating ESG practices into products, plans, and work practices and by assessing the business and customer risks and opportunities associated with gambling, liquor, and cannabis products, as relevant. Support the design, implementation, and evaluation of environmental sustainability programs and initiatives. Ensure environmental sustainability considerations are embedded in daily business activities and considered as part of continuous improvement enhancements with a focus on procurement, GHG reductions, greenbuildings, waste minimization, and lowcarbon solutions. Provide input and track Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and other metrics using methodologies and best practices such as Science Based Targets initiatives (SBTi) best practices across the organization. In collaboration with MBLL Finance Department, ensure that all programs and reporting required under International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) and Canadian Sustainability Disclosure Standards (CSDS) are in place. Monitor and analyze corporate emission data to determine departmental progress towards stated emission reduction goals. Work with departments to adjust plans as needed to achieve goals established in MBLLs NearTerm Carbon Reduction Strategy and the NetZero by 2050 Roadmap. Evaluate existing sustainability programs, including employee compliance through regular collaborative assessments and in person observations, and provide feedback. Prepare reports for management and senior leadership on compliance findings and exceptions observed. Ensure accurate reporting and regulatory compliance. Facilitate the internal communication plan to ensure employee engagement. Collect and analyze environmental sustainability data to maintain corporate sustainability certifications and ensure accuracy and compliance with regulations, including antigreenwashing provisions under the Canadian Competition Act. Compile environmental sustainability metrics for MBLLs Annual Report, ESG Report, IFRS and CSDS, and the province of Manitoba ensuring that reporting serves the dualpurpose meeting regulatory compliance and informing internal and external interested parties. Prepare or assist in the preparation of ad hoc reports to provincial regulators, stewardship organizations, and other external bodies. Assist or draft briefing notes, Board or Executive updates, responses to public inquiries on environmental sustainability issues and internal communications, including iNet posts or other memos. Develop and deliver or assist in developing and delivering training for staff and program specific training materials. Support external engagement through participation and presentations at seminars, and other meetings with industry partners. Other related duties as assigned. Qualifications Completion of a recognized degree or diploma in Science, Environmental Science, or a related discipline, or an equivalent combination of education, certification and experience. A minimum of two years experience integrating environmental sustainability practices within an organization. Experience with ESG reporting to recognized standards (ex. GRI, SASB, IFRS). Experience calculating Scope 1, Scope 2, and Scope 3 emissions using international GHG accounting protocols. Experience conducting environmental audits, analyzing data and reporting. Basic knowledge of green building design, construction and operation, sustainable procurement and circular materiality. Strong analytical, communication, and interpersonal skills (both interpersonal and written). Demonstrated ability to analyze and solve problems independently using good judgment, organizational skills, strong initiative and ability as a selfstarter. Experience and proficiency in Microsoft 365 (Word, PowerPoint, Teams and Outlook), with advanced Excel skills including formulas, pivot tables, lookup functions, data analysis, and interpretation to support modeling. Ongoing professional development is required to keep current with environmental issues, ideas, and solutions. Secondary Qualifications Experience working under Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) as a steward such as Multi Material Stewardship Manitoba (MMSM) or Canadian Beverage Container Recycling Association (CBCRA) is an asset.
