POSITION SUMMARY Under the direction of the Manager, Corporate Communications, the Social Media Specialist is responsible for executing the Niagara Regional Police Services social media strategy. This role involves designing infographics and producing engaging, creative content for the Services official social media platforms. The Social Media Specialist supports Corporate Communications in identifying opportunities for community engagement, managing emerging issues, and mitigating reputational risks. Additionally, the Specialist tracks key metrics and routinely evaluates, reports, and shares insights on social media performance and engagement. MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES Implements the Service''s social media strategy by creating engaging content for corporate accounts, including written posts, videos, photos, and messaging. Manages community interactions by responding to messages, inquiries, and comments across platforms. Monitors social media activity to identify potential reputational risks and issues, supporting timely crisis communication responses when needed. Assists in enforcing the organizations social media policies, procedures, and processes, ensuring all content aligns with established branding guidelines. Operationalizes the Services social media strategy and procedures by listening to and responding to engagement. Maintains unified brand voice across the Services social media channels. Develops creative campaigns and fosters internal and external partnerships to promote the Services initiatives and advance the goals of the Corporate Communications team. Monitors social media platforms for emerging industry trends and ensures the Service stays current by exploring innovative channels, opportunities, and partnerships, providing recommendations to the Manager. Develops reports using key performance metrics to assess campaign effectiveness and audience engagement. Offers insights, recommendations, and strategic advice based on social media performance data. Work collaboratively with other members of the Corporate Communications Unit, ensuring consistent messaging both internally and externally. Assists in the creation and editing of written, video and photo or other creative content for social media platforms. Attend events to produce live content for social media. Other related duties as assigned. Minimum two (2) year community college diploma in a related field (e.g., corporate, media or digital communications, marketing, social media) plus a minimum two (2) years relevant pre-job experience in corporate or government social media, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Understanding of Municipal Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act, the Youth Criminal Justice Act, Criminal Code of Canada, and the Police Services Act as it pertains to the release of information. Demonstrated ability to work with social media platforms and management tools, website management, Adobe Creative Cloud, MS Office software (Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint), and Adobe Suite (Adobe Premier, Adobe Photoshop). Strong communication skills (both verbal and written) and demonstrated ability to create engaging and innovative content. Proven ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality. Ability to work well under pressure, multi-task, and function effectively in a high-volume workplace with tight deadlines. Valid class ''G'' driver''s license. PHYSICAL/MENTAL DEMANDS Extended periods of visual concentration required when working on a computer. Intermittent and prolonged keyboarding. May be required to stand for extended periods of time. WORKING CONDITIONS Work is subject to interruptions. Work is subject to multiple and/or simultaneous deadlines and urgent requests. Work is performed in outdoor environments as needed to support projects or corporate events. Travel within the Niagara Region. May be required to work outside regular business hours.
