Opportunity The Program and Design Manager will work with the Real Estate Development Group and be a key participant in designing new state of the art senior residences. This position will assist with coordinating the logical internal programming of resident, staff and back of house spaces for optimal operational efficiency and customer experience, coordinating the interior design expectations, setting standards and working with internal stakeholders to support procurement. This position consults with internal stakeholders and directs external consultants to achieve goals. Working Relationships Work with internal Operational and Marketing teams to plan and logically and conceptually organize all interior spaces of new projects including amenity areas, service areas, resident suites and back of house spaces. Provide direction to external project consultants on programming and interior design expectations and review, critique and progress interior planning; specifically architectural and interior design consultants. Work with the Supply Chain team to assist with the procurement of FFE for all new projects and ensure approved vendors are considered. Work with Chartwells technology group to plan and locate the safety and security features of each new development. Work with the Accretive Project team to establish standards and stay current with trends and practical considerations for the senior interior environments. Work with joint venture partners/representatives in sharing ideas and plans for shared projects. Undertake special projects focused on continuous improvement of senior friendly environments. Leadership The Program and Design Manager will conduct themselves at all times as a leader, as an Ambassador of Chartwell and promote the organization positively internally and externally. Provide subject matter expertise and support to internal stakeholder teams on programing and interior design for new projects. Provide guidance and direction to external consultants to ensure Chartwell standards are met and incorporated into the working drawings of project planning. Managing simultaneous projects with competing priorities on a day to day basis. Keep current with all seniors housing product types to ensure sensitivity to the needs of elders with physical and cognitive limitations. Budget & Financial Assisting with the development of FFE project budgets for new developments; Ensuring decisions are progressed to reduce delays in drawing development and construction; Ensure program efficiencies to reduce unnecessary building square footage additions. Being aware of market costs for various finish inclusions; Monitoring budget spend with Supply Chain; Reporting on budget spend and anticipating overages; Understanding specifications and meeting standards against cost; Critically interpreting and reviewing cost reports and construction progress claims; Maintaining up-to-date project records and documentation for all program and design decisions; Determining FFE and finish spending priorities for budget management, and Review and approve relevant project purchase orders ensuring proper cost allocation and adherence to budget. Customer Service Establish a formal and regular reporting structure with real estate department lead to update on project status. Respond to internal stakeholder queries and concerns in an expeditious manner; Work towards quick resolutions to project delays in a professional and factual manner. Actively define project budgets to carefully manage annual expenditure targets. Qualifications Experience 5+ years of practical experience in Seniors Housing. Experience in functional programming, interior design and FFE procurement for seniors environments is considered an asset. Experience working in a large multi asset organization with various stakeholders. Sound understanding and articulation of cost benefit analysis. Managing multiple and simultaneous projects. Education University or College degree in a relevant field. Skills & Abilities Proficient in MS Office, with thorough working knowledge of Excel, Word and Project Programs. Ability to read, understand and communicate on project drawings. Ability to read interior design and architectural drawings and specifications is required. Knowledge of construction industry is essential. Working knowledge of purchase order systems. Sound understanding of building & fire codes. Ability to manage and coordinate stakeholders. Self-sufficient and independent working and thinking. Solutions based thinking and approach to challenging project limitations. Managing multiple projects concurrently. Working Conditions Work is generally performed in an office environment, home and corporate. Travel on occasion, as required.
