Our purpose is to enrich the student experience by focusing on their nonacademic needs through an array of student-driven programs and services. We are governed by elected student representatives who set the strategic vision on behalf of students. DESCRIPTION The online editor at the Griff is responsible for managing our social media feeds, online publishing, and website maintenance. As the online editor, youll take the reins of the Griffs digital identity, digital media strategy, and digital presence. By managing our website and socials, youll continue to build the Griffs presence online and engage with our audiences. You will work closely with the digital content editor to find a way to optimize our impact online. This role may see quick turnaround times for things such as breaking news. We work as a tight, creative team to make all sorts of cool ideas come to life. At the Griff, youll play a part in building the day-to-day conversations on campus, as well as the legacy of the university. The Griff is a service to students. All editors are expected to assist our contributors, and support the MacEwan community through their work. RESPONSIBILITIES Social Media Create and schedule social media posts Create digital promotional campaigns Manage the Griffs social accounts Work with the multimedia editor to create an upload schedule, content strategy, and content ideas Compile monthly analytics for EIC Web Ensure the monthly magazine is uploaded to our site on release Upload articles and other content to the website on a regular basis, or as they become available Format content for ease of access, clarity, and reader appeal Ensure all parts of the website are functional and include up-to-date info Source images for web articles if needed Supply the EIC with monthly website analytics Prepare and send out a biweekly newsletter Writing Write digital copy Report and write articles if needed Organization Assign and manage articles/projects, set deadlines, and enforce them Schedule articles and social media posts Mentorship Guide our contributors to success by helping them find sources, angles, stories, and more Work with contributors to edit and modify written work to match our standards Meetings Attend weekly meetings Ambassador Represent the Griff by assisting in contributor recruitment Assist in promoting the Griff Other duties as assigned by the editor-in-chief VALUES Students First SAMU is here for the students. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE Preference will be given to current MacEwan Students registered in a minimum of one class during either Fall 2026 or Winter 2027 term. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES Experience with multimedia content creation and social media is an asset Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to meet deadlines Confident speaking with others Knowledge of Canadian Press style is an asset Strong command of the English language Experience with Google Docs and the Google suite of tools Working with the Adobe suite of tools is an asset, particularly Graphic design, illustration, photography, video creation experience are assets WORKING CONSIDERATIONS Sedentary with Light Physical Effort Sitting, Standing, Walking, Kneeling, Lifting up to 10 pounds, Manual Dexterity TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT Up to 30 hours/week July 2 - August 30, 2026 & Up to 25 hours/ week September 2026 - March 31, 2027, with office hours between 8:30 am - 4:30 pm.
