Learn more at The Opportunity We are seeking a skilled Utility Financial Strategist to join our growing Consulting team! As a Utility Financial Strategist, you will be responsible for providing advanced financial expertise to support utility clients in evaluating and implementing AMI and modernization initiatives. You will also lead detailed business cases and sophisticated costbenefit and scenario models that translate technical and operational change into decisionready financial insight. This role quantifies the economics of transition activities including modeling the financial impact of retiring manual/AMR systems or legacy AMI systems and managing stranded assets. The Utility Financial Strategist will model and quantify the financial impact of operational migration from bootsontheground field work to a digital fixed network. Working closely with crossfunctional teams, the Utility Financial Strategist supports regulatory filings, evaluates vendor proposals, and communicates findings through presentations, dashboards, and reports to ensure utilities achieve strong financial performance and strategic outcomes. What Youll Be Doing Lead the development of comprehensive AMI business cases quantifying financial, operational, and customer benefits. Build detailed costbenefit models incorporating capital expenditures, O&M impacts, lifecycle costs, and longterm projections. Evaluate multiple deployment scenarios (pilot, phased, full rollout, targeted replacement) to support executive decisionmaking. Analyze vendor pricing sheets and proposals to validate cost structures and longterm financial implications. Develop comparative pricing models for AMI, MDM, and CIS vendor evaluations. Assess ROI, NPV, IRR, and payback periods to determine financial viability of modernization initiatives. Model key cost drivers including meters, communications infrastructure, installation, integration, and ongoing support. Quantify avoided costs and operational efficiencies (e.g., reduced manual reads, billing accuracy improvements, theft detection, outage management). Model financial impacts of retiring legacy infrastructure and managing stranded assets. Quantify operational migration from fieldbased processes to digital fixed networks. Partner crossfunctionally with engineering, IT, operations, regulatory, and customer service teams to validate assumptions and inputs. Translate technical requirements into clear, decisionready financial insights for executives and regulators. Prepare financial documentation and evidence for regulatory filings related to AMI investments. Present financial findings, scenario analyses, and recommendations to senior leadership and steering committees. Develop dashboards, summaries, and visualizations to communicate complex financial concepts clearly and effectively. What You Bring Experience in the Utilities sector (Water, Gas, or Electricity) is required. Bachelors degree in finance, Accounting, Engineering or related field. Minimum 3 years of proven experience in financial analysis, financial reporting, or similar roles. CPA (Chartered Professional Accountant) certification is an asset. Presenting financial analysis and results to various levels of staff. Advanced MS Office skills including proficiency with Microsoft Excel. Experience working with Microsoft Dynamics is an asset. Working knowledge and experience with Microsoft Power BI and/or Power Automate is an asset. Strong understanding of IFRS and financial accounting principles. Advanced knowledge of current budgeting and accounting concepts and procedures, variance analysis and account reconciliations. Advanced proficiency in financial modeling, management and reporting.
