Duties Manitoba is home to many valuable fisheries, which support Indigenous sustenance harvest, commercial fishing, and recreational angling. The Regional Fisheries Manager is a key member of a dedicated team of fisheries managers and biologists responsible for the management of these valuable fisheries resources. Reporting to the Section Manager, the Regional Fisheries Manager is responsible for the management of the fisheries within the Western Region of Manitoba. This position develops and delivers the Regional programs that support Indigenous, commercial and sport fisheries within the scope of departmental policies and strategies. Qualifications Degree in Biology, Fisheries, Environmental Science, Resource Management or Enforcement, or an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. Experience developing, implementing, and evaluating freshwater fisheries management actions, plans, programs and projects, including fisheries field programs. Experience with the application of freshwater fisheries management principles and practices such as fish stocking, fish stock assessments, habitat assessments and appropriate rehabilitation methodologies. Experience with angling regulation and management, commercial fishery regulation, management and eco-certification, and/or commercial fishing tourism management. Experience supervising staff, including addressing performance management issues, developing work plans and learning/training plans. Experience working with Indigenous communities including familiarity with Indigenous consultation and engagement processes. Strong written communication skills including preparing management plans, assessment reports, project proposals and technical reports, with a high degree of accuracy, clarity and conciseness. Strong verbal communication skills with the ability to communicate technical information in a clear manner including communication, engagement and consultation with Indigenous communities, resource users, stakeholders and the public. Ability to work independently with strong organizational and time management skills including the ability to prioritize work activities to meet deadlines.
