South Zone PCA, Medicine Hat, Medicine Hat Community Health Nursing - Nurse/Psych Nurse Your Opportunity This position is part of the Primary Care Alberta (PCA) South Public Health Nursing department and is located at or out of Medicine Hat community health office. The successful Public Health Nurse (PHN) will effectively use the nursing process to provide safe, quality, ethical and patient/family centered health care while reflecting the shared vision and values of PCA. Working in partnership within a multidisciplinary team and with community stakeholders, the PHN will provide integrated and holistic services to individuals, families, groups, and communities with attention to diversity and the social determinants of health with the goal to promote and protect health and wellness and prevent illness. The PHN will independently provide health assessment, health planning, health education, supportive counseling, preventative and screening measures, advocacy, referrals, and evaluation as appropriate. Duties of a generalist PHN include but are not limited to immunizations in well child, adult, schools, newcomer, influenza, and other mass immunization clinics and programs; Communicable Disease Control and Tuberculosis outbreak management, support, and follow-up; Postpartum Caregiver/Newborn health services which provide strength based anticipatory guidance, home & office visits, prenatal & postnatal programs, breastfeeding support, screening & referrals. Description As a Registered Nurse (RN), you will provide a wide variety of nursing services to patients, families, communities and populations, while taking necessary steps to ensure their safety and well-being. In your role, you will utilize nursing processes, through critical thinking, problem solving and decision making, as well as teach, counsel and advocate on behalf of patients and their families. Experience with electronic charting in Connect Care. Preferred Qualifications Previous experience within the last 2 years working in a public health nursing unit. Baccalaureate degree in nursing preferred; however, skills/experience/knowledge relevant to nursing practice in community sector will be considered. Recent nursing experience working in maternal/child, labour/delivery, NICU and/or pediatrics units.
