Venor is excited to partner with East Coast Docks on their search for a Technical Operations Specialist to join their team in Kenora, Ontario. About the Role: The Technical Operations Specialist is responsible for supporting day-to-day marine operations including installation, servicing, logistics, and technical system layout. Reporting to the Director of Operations, this role integrates operations, field execution, and customer-facing support within the Kenora region. This role is designed as a long-term investment in both the business and the right person stepping into it. The successful candidate will gain handson exposure to the full scope of the business, including dock system installation, yard management, customer interaction, and sales support. Over time, they will build a comprehensive, end-to-end understanding of the operation, positioning them for increased responsibility and playing a key role in the companys long-term growth and succession planning. Projects include residential dock installations and commercial marine systems such as marinas, utilizing aluminum-framed dock-on-post systems and composite floating dock systems, including EZ Dock. Key Responsibilities: Installation & Technical Execution Assist in installation, removal, and servicing of dock-on-post and aluminum-framed dock systems. Support layout and assembly of composite floating dock systems, including EZ Dock. Take measurements and assist with residential and commercial dock system design and configuration. Ensure installations meet manufacturer guidelines and East Coast Docks best practices. Perform light mechanical troubleshooting and maintenance of tools and equipment. Interact professionally with customers, contractors, and dealers. Participate in site visits and assist with measurements and system layout discussions. Support sales efforts by providing technical input and field-based feedback. Assist in identifying opportunities for additional products or services. Maintain a strong customer service focus to ensure projects meet or exceed expectations. Operations & Resource Coordination Support efficient execution of all assigned installation and service projects. Operate material handling equipment including telehandlers and forklifts. Load, stage, and pack materials for project and dealer fulfillment. Assist in maintaining safe, clean, organized, and functional workspaces including yard, warehouse, trucks, and jobsites. Support warehouse layout, yard organization, and operational improvements. Minimize site inefficiencies by ensuring correct materials, hardware, and equipment are prepared prior to deployment. Actively learn product lines, applications, and system configurations. Support the documentation and refinement of operational best practices. Assist in implementing process improvements across yard operations and field execution. Develop a broad understanding of operations, sales support, and project coordination to support long-term operational growth. Core Competencies Mechanical Aptitude: Demonstrates strong handson technical ability and a natural understanding of how systems function and integrate. Confident working with tools, equipment, aluminum assemblies, anchoring systems, and modular dock components. Able to interpret layouts and manufacturer guidelines and apply them accurately in the field. Initiative: Identifies and addresses issues proactively and persistently. Works independently with minimal supervision and takes ownership of assigned responsibilities. Anticipates operational needs and prepares accordingly, particularly during peak installation seasons. Demonstrates energy and forward momentum in daily tasks. Problem Solving and Analysis: Assesses site conditions, environmental factors, and project constraints to make sound, practical decisions. Troubleshoots installation challenges, equipment issues, and logistical inefficiencies using systematic reasoning. Applies good judgment when resolving customer or field-related concerns. Organization and Planning: Maintains orderly workspaces including yard, warehouse, trucks, and job sites. Plans tasks methodically to ensure materials, hardware, and equipment are properly staged prior to project deployment. Demonstrates attention to detail and accuracy in measurements, layouts, and documentation. Adjusts priorities efficiently in response to changing site conditions, seasonal workload shifts, or scheduling changes while maintaining productivity and quality standards. Communication Skills: Communicates clearly and professionally with customers, dealers, contractors, and internal team members. Actively listens and asks questions to ensure full understanding of site requirements and customer expectations. Provides constructive feedback to sales and operations teams regarding field conditions and project execution. Teamwork and Collaboration: Works cooperatively with warehouse staff, field technicians, and sales personnel to ensure seamless project execution. Values the input and expertise of senior team members and actively participates in knowledge transfer. Contributes to a positive, teamoriented environment focused on shared goals. Time Management: Demonstrates the ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently, particularly during peak seasons. Prioritizes effectively and maintains steady progress on assigned responsibilities. Meets deadlines and supports overall project scheduling requirements. Customer Service Focus: Dedicated to meeting and exceeding customer expectations. Acts with customers in mind during installations, service work, and site visits. Builds trust through professionalism, responsiveness, and quality workmanship. Qualifications Experience and certification in the operation of required material handling equipment Valid Canadian drivers license and a positive drivers abstract 3+ years of project management experience 5+ years of handson experience in construction, marine, mechanical, or related field. Experience in sales and/or customer service Experience with MS Office Suite The Technical Operations Specialist role at East Coast Docks is a mix of office work, and site work outside of the office. Regular hours are weekdays, 8am to 5pm (EST). Due to the nature of the role, it is common to work longer hours and/or weekends during the busy times in the spring and fall.
