ACCOUNTABILITY OBJECTIVE Under the direction of the Controller, this role is responsible for the full monthly accounting cycle for one long-term care residence and other allocated retirement residences including balance sheet reconciliations, entity financial and management reports, group consolidation, tax remittances, ministry reporting and other government compliance. Background/Qualifications Successful candidate must hold a university degree in accounting and be working towards CPA designation. Be detailed-oriented and a team player with, at least, two to three years of progressive accounting experience. Have a positive can do attitude with a proven track record for meeting/exceeding deadlines and produce accurate work. Excellent working knowledge of Excel and computerized accounting systems. Able to communicate effectively, both written and orally, in the English language. Be self-motivated, possess strong organizational and analytical skills and have the desire to learn. Understanding of the Ministry of Health Long-Term Care reporting, Retirement Residences Regulations and experience with retirement living is an asset. Experience with Sage 300 and working with multiple entities is an asset. Key Responsibilities Works with the full accounting cycle, including general ledger, balance sheet account reconciliations which includes, but not limited to, accounts payable, accounts receivable, fixed assets and payroll for residences including one long-term care residence. Prepares journal entries for both day-to-day and month-end transactions. Preparation of monthly financial statements, working papers, consolidation and financial reports. Works with Controller to prepare/assist in preparation of Ministry of Health long-term care reporting (MIS, ARR and others as required). Reviews financial information, analyzes and processes that information, and takes the appropriate action if necessary. Analyzes, investigates, and resolves monthly variances. Prepares monthly variances report on significant matters to the operations team and/or controller. Responsible for remittance of payroll related amounts, including Workers Compensation and EHT. Tracks capital expenditure against capital budgets and ensures proper categorization and depreciation of assets. Advises and provides finance support to the residences as required. Liaises with resident GMs to research and resolve residences inquiries. Ensures compliance with GAAP. Prepares year-end audit packages. Ensure that all regulatory and government returns, and reporting (GST/HST, annual returns) are filed on time. Works independently and with minimum supervision. Complies with all corporate policies and procedures. Completes all required mandatory training and education. Performs other related tasks as delegated by the Controller. Some GTA travel required. Complies with the Occupational Health and Safety Act, Workplace Safety and Insurance Act, and Workplace Hazardous Material Information System. This includes recognizing health and safety hazards, reporting incidents, fulfilling responsibilities under the applicable legislation, as well as participating in in-services and fire drills. Complies with all corporate policies and procedures. Completes all required mandatory training/education. All offers of employment are subject to a Criminal Background Check.
