Aquatics Assistants ($17.60 per hour) The City of Markham''s pool facilities offer public swim, swimming lessons, aquafit classes and rentals. We have indoor Aquatics Assistants at all of our indoor pools. The successful candidate will be responsible for: Provides quality customer service by answering inquiries while on duty. Servicing customers by maintaining clean change rooms, monitoring loitering in order to deter theft and reminding patrons to follow pool rules. Supervision of patrons using the water slide (top of the slide only). Cleans change rooms and washrooms. Replenishes supplies such as soap, paper towels, toilet paper, etc. Ensures site, equipment and supplies are appropriately maintained to minimize health and safety risk at all times. Assists with deck and emergency procedure duties as qualified. Provides inwater assistance to Instructors. Excellent customer service skills; ability to clean; communicates tactfully with customers. Qualifications In addition to being at least 14 years old, you have the following required current qualifications: Lifesaving Society Bronze Cross Lifesaving Society Standard First Aid Lifesaving Society Assistant Instructor preferred Lifeguards ($19.10 per hour) As a Lifeguard for the City of Markham Recreation Services Department, your primary role will be to maintain the safety of people using our swimming pool area. Specifically, you will: Provide excellent customer service and encourage pool users to practice safe and enjoyable swimming. Patrol and observe the swimming pool area ensuring pool rules are being adhered to. Check rescue equipment and discuss scanning approach with team. Ensure correct patron-to-lifeguard ratios are met at all times. Apply basic life support and first aid as required. Complete pool deck setup and cleanup. Perform minor maintenance and cleaning. Know emergency procedures. Excellent customer service skills and the ability to work well with other staff. Experience with cash management would be an asset. Qualifications In addition to being at least 15 years old, you have the following required current qualifications: Lifesaving Society National Lifeguard Lifesaving Society Standard First Aid with CPR C w/ Automatic External Defibrillator (AED) Lifesaving Society Airway Management Swim Instructors ($21.10 per hour) As a Swim Instructor for the City of Markham Recreation Services Department, you will provide direct leadership, instruction and motivation in helping our swim program participants achieve and surpass Lifesaving Society, City of Markham and other association standards. Provide direct instruction and evaluation of program participants. Plan and organize classes through daily lesson plans and longterm core plans to ensure progressive learning. Maintain class safety through formations and proper scanning techniques. Educate all facility users on safe and enjoyable swimming practices. Check rescue equipment and discuss your scanning approach with the team. Complete pool deck setup and cleanup. Apply basic life support and first aid as required. Perform minor maintenance and cleaning. Know emergency procedures. Excellent customer service skills and the ability to work well with other staff. Experience with cash management is an asset.
