Position Summary Temporary Full-Time Appendix D Support Staff, replacement contract position (April 6, 2026 March 22, 2027) The Registered Practical Nurse (RPN) works as an integral member of the Student Health and Wellness team. The RPN provides primary health care services to scheduled and walk-in clients within the professional scope of nursing practice and medical directives. This role contributes to the overall health and well-being of our students. Successful candidates will be required to conduct work on-site five days per week, Monday to Friday, 8:45 a.m. to 4:15 p.m. at the Doon campus located at 299 Doon Valley Dr. in Kitchener. Responsibilities Direct client service and primary care Prioritizes health concerns and walk-in client needs through health history and physical assessment Provides primary care services to scheduled clients within the professional scope of nursing practice and medical directives Responds to medical crises with the assistance of security, emergency responders, Nurse Practitioner (NP) or Physician (MD) Provides assessment and treatment of wounds based on best practice guidelines (e.g., pilonidal abscesses, lacerations) Administers immunizations to clients according to the approved immunization schedule of the Canadian Immunization Guide and the manufacturers specifications Interprets Public Health immunity lab titers in collaboration with the NP/MD and arranges appropriate follow-up Administers injections for treatment and provides phlebotomy services as ordered by NP/MD Assists NP/MD with complete physical exams and directs clients as needed Completes laboratory requisitions and clinic room setup/cleanup Collects, handles, and prepares specimens for the laboratory (e.g., urine, blood, stool, and swabs); sterilizes medical utensils with the autoclave machine Conducts telephone appointments related to followup of test results and change in plan of care or medications as directed by NP/MD Health promotion, initiatives and education Provides individual and group health teaching when necessary to clients (e.g., prenatal education, transgender care and selfadministration of hormonal injections, diabetes selfmanagement and glucometer/glucose testing, mental health, communicable diseases, sexually transmitted infections, contraceptives, smoking cessation, drug and alcohol awareness, nutrition) Participates in health promotion initiatives as appropriate Administrative duties Ensures equipment, refrigeration and sterilization practices and training are up to date Orders appropriate quantities of medical and firstaid kit supplies, vaccines, and other supplies Keeps up to date with training and best practices, including WHMIS, First Aid, CPR, defibrillator training, suicide prevention, etc. Qualifications A minimum twoyear College diploma in Practical Nursing is required A licensed Registered Practical Nurse in Ontario in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario is required A minimum of three years of experience in providing nursing assessments and care in a busy clinical setting, assisting clients on a walkin/urgent care basis with a variety of health and mental healthrelated needs Administering subcutaneous, intradermal, and intramuscular injections and experience with venipuncture and phlebotomy is required Current Standard First Aid and CPR Certificate is required Certifications in Mental Health Nursing, Wound Care, Clinical Skills in Gynaecological Care, and additional assessment skills courses are considered an asset Demonstrated ability to establish priorities, remain flexible, and adapt to changing circumstances in a busy office setting Strong teamwork skills and the ability to collaborate effectively within a multidisciplinary environment Highly developed communication and computer skills Experience with Practice Solutions is considered an asset #J-18808-Ljbffr
