Neurophysiology Consultant The closing date is 19 March 2026. Applications are invited to apply for the above substantive consultant post in the Department of Neurophysiology based at the John Radcliffe Hospital, Headington, Oxford. Main duties of the job The principal duties of the post-holders will be to contribute to the running of the general diagnostic clinical neurophysiological requirements of the department including EMG and EEG, video-telemetry, evoked potential, and epilepsy (including pre-surgical evaluation including intracranial recording) service in adults and children. The candidate will be able to express a subspecialty interest to complement the department, with scope to undertake subspecialist activity in NCS/EMG, EEG, VT, or sleep work. There is currently no on-call commitment. A wide-ranging knowledge of clinical neurophysiology will be required and is one of the specific attractions of the post. The department is keen to attract candidates with an interest in paediatric neurophysiology in particular. The post-holders will be required to participate in the urgent adult and paediatric EEG reporting rota, which currently provides an in-hours weekday service, including prospective cover during colleagues' leave of absence. The daytoday activities will include performing or supervising reporting of EEG and videotelemetry, supporting clinical meetings and case discussions, and conducting EMG or other specialty clinics. The post-holders will also be responsible for supervising and guiding registrars and physiologists within the Neurophysiology department. The successful candidate will work with three fulltime consultants and two parttime, to provide a comprehensive specialist diagnostic clinical neurophysiology service with some responsibility for neurology, for the Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (OUHFT), the Thames Valley, and beyond. Person Specification Qualifications - Primary medical degree - MRCP or equivalent - Certificate of Completion of Specialist Training (CCT) in Clinical Neurophysiology; or Registration on GMC Specialist Register in Clinical Neurophysiology and/or Neurology (if relevant overseas training in Clinical Neurophysiology to Consultant Level); or within six months of achieving CCT at the time of interview - Higher Medical Degree PhD, MD or equivalent - Subspeciality interest in Paediatric clinical neurophysiology - Specialist accreditation in epilepsy or sleep Skills and Knowledge - Effective administrative and time management skills; training in clinical management - Knowledge of the organisation of the NHS - Evidence of significant contribution to successful teamwork - Computing skills, ability to use word processor, spreadsheet programme - Demonstrable achievements in the development or integration of digital systems into clinical practice - Good spoken and written English; highly developed communication and interpersonal skills to undertake effectively the role of consultant in a large teaching hospital - Evidence of leadership outside of the NHS - Technical expertise in neurophysiology diagnostic software - Evidence of recent 360degree appraisal Experience - Experience across the range of core Clinical Neurophysiology investigations (EMG, EEG, EP, VT) - Training in Clinical Neurophysiology to Consultant level or equivalent - Evidence of ability to make decisions at consultant level and to manage complex clinical problems - Experience of consultant responsibilities in a tertiary neurosciences centre - Independent reporting of complex EEG studies (epilepsy +/- sleep disorders) in adults and children Disclosure and Barring Service Check This post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service (formerly known as CRB) to check for any previous criminal convictions.
