One of the world''''s leading financial institutions is hiring a Director of Communication Surveillance Technology to own the engineering vision for a platform that monitors millions of communications daily across 40+ channels and 16,000+ employees. This is a hardcore technology leadership role not project management, not security architecture, not compliance consulting. You''''ll lead a team of 20-25 engineers and architects, drive a cloud-native big data platform, and use AI/ML and LLMs to turn raw communications data into intelligent, high-signal surveillance. The platform is scaling fast across multiple business divisions and the technical problems are genuinely hard: multi-system data ingestion, real-time NLP at scale, false positive reduction, audio transcription, multilingual intent detection, and emerging video analytics. What you''''ll own: Architecture and engineering vision for an enterprise-grade communications surveillance platform processing data from 40+ channels, including email, Teams, Bloomberg, Webex, SMS, voice, and more End-to-end data ingestion pipeline connecting 40+ heterogeneous systems into a central cloud data lake AI/ML and LLM strategy for alert intelligence, false positive reduction, behavioural analytics, NLP, and audio/multilingual analysis A team of 20-25 engineers and QA specialists hiring, mentoring, and driving a culture of technical excellence Platform vendor relationships (Smarsh and others), including configuration optimization and roadmap influence Executive stakeholder engagement translating complex engineering into business outcomes What you bring: 10+ years in technology, with 5+ years leading large-scale data platform or engineering teams Proven track record integrating data from multiple heterogeneous systems into centralized repositories at enterprise scale Real enterprise AI/ML deployments production-grade, not proof of concept ideally including NLP, anomaly detection, or signal-to-noise optimization Strong cloud architecture (AWS or Azure), microservices, event-driven systems, data engineering Vision for where LLMs and GenAI go next in communications analytics audio, multilingual, behavioural, video The leadership presence to run a 20-25 person team and partner directly with senior business stakeholders Experience in a heavily regulated industry is an asset, but not a requirement Bonus points for: Hands-on surveillance platform experience (Smarsh, Behavox, Shield, Proofpoint, Bvault), regulatory compliance knowledge, advanced degree in CS or Data Science.
