This role is central to translating complex customer specifications into manufacturable mechanical designs for custom power distribution, UPS systems, battery chargers, and related equipment. The Senior Mechanical Engineer will work closely with Applications Engineering, Sales, Supply Chain, and the shop floor to ensure that every custom order is structurally sound, thermally managed, compliant with applicable standards, and producible without rework. Our Pointe-Claire facility is part of a growing North American network that includes headquarters in Faribault, MN, and additional locations in Troy, MI; Houston, TX; Merrimack, NH; Burnsville, MN; Murfreesboro, TN; and Waukesha, WI. Together, we are Trystar where we power the future and nurture innovation for a brighter tomorrow. Why Join Trystar? Be the mechanical authority on complex, high-value ETO projects from structural design and enclosure selection to thermal analysis and hardware specification. Play a direct role in improving the quality and manufacturability of custom designs, reducing rework and engineering cycle time. Work across a diverse product portfolio including custom NEMA-rated enclosures, switchboards, UPS systems, battery chargers, and power distribution assemblies. Contribute to building a stronger, more capable engineering team through technical mentorship and process standardization. We are looking for people who believe in our guiding principles and values of: Safety We believe everyone should leave Trystar facilities in the same or better condition than when they arrived. Integrity Were honest, transparent, and committed to doing whats right. Customer focus We have relentless focus on our customers and their success. Enjoy the journey We create an environment where our team feels appreciated and has fun along the way. In this role you will get to: Design and engineer custom mechanical assemblies for UPS systems, battery chargers, and power distribution equipment, including enclosure structural design, hardware layout, and component mounting, in compliance with NEMA 250, UL 508A, UL 891, UL 1558, and CSA C22.2 standards. Lead thermal analysis and cooling system design for custom enclosures evaluating fan, ventilation, and air conditioning solutions based on load profiles, ambient conditions, and NEMA protection requirements. Review and interpret customer specifications, site drawings, and environmental requirements to define accurate mechanical solutions that are both compliant and manufacturable. Develop and maintain detailed mechanical documentation including assembly drawings, fabrication drawings, BOM structures, and product specifications to support manufacturing, testing, and customer deliverables. Collaborate with Applications Engineering, Sales, Supply Chain, and the shop floor to ensure seamless handoff from design to production, identifying and resolving manufacturability issues early in the process. Drive design standardization by identifying recurring customizations and developing modular or configurable mechanical solutions that improve quoting speed, consistency, and accuracy. Act as the technical reference for mechanical design decisions, supporting the team on enclosure selection, hardware standards, material specifications, and tolerance requirements. Mentor junior engineers and drafters, building internal capability in mechanical design principles, drawing standards, and design for manufacturability (DFM). Identify inefficiencies in engineering workflows and drive continuous improvement in design practices, documentation quality, and cross-functional handoffs. Support product certification and compliance activities by preparing technical documentation and coordinating with certification bodies as required. Job Requirements: BASIC QUALIFICATIONS Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering. 7+ years of experience in mechanical design for custom-engineered industrial equipment, preferably in power distribution, electrical enclosures, or heavy capital equipment manufacturing. Proficiency with SolidWorks and AutoCAD for 3D modeling, assembly design, and detailed drawing production. Handson experience with enclosure design for NEMA 1, 3R, 4, 4X, and 12 rated equipment. Strong working knowledge of thermal management principles for electrical enclosures, including heat load calculations, ventilation sizing, and AC unit selection. Ability to interpret customer specifications, single-line diagrams, site plans, and environmental data to define complete mechanical solutions. Solid understanding of sheet metal design, fabrication processes, and DFM principles for low-to-medium volume custom manufacturing. Experience creating comprehensive technical documentation: fabrication drawings, assembly drawings, BOM structures, and product specifications. Familiarity with relevant standards: NEMA 250, UL 508A, UL 891, UL 1558, CSA C22.2 No. 107.1. Strong attention to detail, structured approach to design documentation, and commitment to firsttime quality. Excellent communication and collaboration skills comfortable working across engineering, sales, supply chain, and the shop floor. Bilingual in English and French, with strong verbal and written communication skills in both languages. ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS (considered as assets) Experience with stress analysis and structural simulation using SolidWorks Simulation or equivalent tools. Knowledge of seismic and transportation load requirements for electrical equipment (IEEE 693, IBC, OSHPD) an asset for certain customer segments. Familiarity with ERP and PLM systems for managing engineering BOMs, drawing revisions, and change orders. Experience with engineering change order (ECO) processes and document control in a manufacturing environment. Exposure to design for reliability (DFR), design for testability (DFT), and Design for Safety (DFS) methodologies. Experience contributing to or leading continuous improvement initiatives related to design standardization, rework reduction, or engineering workflow efficiency.
