The Nurse Clinician for the Emergency Department (ED) is an expert emergency department nurse and member of the inter-professional leadership team. You will provide leadership in knowledge-based practice, the development of standards, processes, quality initiatives and be responsible for overall education and staff development initiatives directed at enhancing the care for patients in the ED. About this team: The Emergency Department (ED) at Mount Sinai Hospital, located in the Schwartz/Reisman Emergency Centre, treats urgent and lifethreatening injuries and illnesses. The experienced team of emergency care providers see more than 61,000 patients annually. The ED has 60 exam rooms which are utilized for mixed acuity patient care. Communities served include Gynecology/Obstetrics, General Internal Medicine, Orthopedics, Oncology, Gastroenterology, Dental emergencies, people who are living under-housed, experiencing mental & substance use health challenges. The multidisciplinary team in this acute, academic centre includes MDs, ACPs, NPs, RNs, RPNs, Physician Navigators, learners, Peer Support Workers, SWs, OTs, PTs, volunteers, Security Ambassadors and the Psychiatry Emergency Services team. In this role you will: - Develop and maintain standards of nursing practice and management of patient care through the creation of an environment conducive to growth and development of staff and excellence in nursing practice. Interpret and foster the philosophy, goals and standards of the Department of Nursing - Collaborate in the establishment of goals and objectives for the unit consistent with the provision of high-quality care. - Participate and lead programmatic development of the clinical area focused on improving the patient experience and achieving departmental and business unit goals - Develop linkages within MSH and the community, including community services, multicultural services, nursing homes, etc. to enhance continuity of care for patients - Participate in committee, quality improvement and policy and procedure development - Oversee new hire orientation, competency development of existing staff advancing into roles such as team leading, triage, and resuscitation - Support research activities and evidence-based practice at the point of patient care for the purposes of improving nursing practice and patient outcomes - Collaborate in the design, implementation, and evaluation of information technologies required in the Emergency Department - Deliver, coordinate and participate in education and professional development activities/programs; perform activities to further develop and strengthen the profession including the supervision of students - Act as a resource and serve as a consultant to individuals and groups within the professional community - Perform other duties consistent with the job classification as required Job Requirements Mandatory - Graduate of a CNO-approved Baccalaureate Nursing (RN) program - Currently registered as an RN and in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO) - 5 years of recent and related nursing experience Preferred - Emergency Nursing Certificate an asset - Membership in RNAO and other organizations relevant to role Skills and Knowledge - Expertise in Emergency Nursing - Utilizes and demonstrates a comprehensive theoretical knowledge base and advanced level of clinical competence in the care of emergency patients - Understands concepts relevant to adult education in the practice setting - Interest and expertise in Health Information Management initiatives as well as the use of Information Technology in the Emergency Department.
