Description The Director of Communications volunteer provides strategic leadership for all Chapter communications and works collaboratively to support the GTA Chapter committee Chairs. This position helps shape how our Chapter informs, engages, and supports the public, our partners, and our local supporters. The incumbent also serves as a key representative of the Chapterworking with the National Office, connecting with local organizations, and occasionally providing leadership support when the Chapter Chair is unavailable. This homebased role reports to the Chapter Chair and requires about 20 hours per month of volunteer duties on average. Responsibilities Develops and executes a communication strategy to support the organizations mission and the volunteer Chapters strategic and action plans Oversees implementation of Chapters tactical plans in alignment with National Office communications strategy and priorities Provides strategic input on the Chapters interaction with media Works closely with National Office staff and local organizations, and provides backup leadership to the Chapter as required Liaises with Chairs of various committees and provides them with communications advice and support Oversees GTA Chapter Facebook account and Chapter page on DWDC website Leads public awareness and education programs: liaises with traditional media; oversees social media presence Produces member communication, including quarterly newsletter Contributes to event planning and promotion Opportunities for Growth Network with people in your community Strengthen professional skills in public speaking, presenting, and event management through rolespecific training Development of new and existing skills Learning opportunities to deepen understanding of endoflife care in Canada Contribute to the creation of a more open society where conversations about death are normalized and embraced, rather than stigmatized Ability to request a professional reference from DWDC after completion of at least 2 months of volunteering with us and much more! Qualifications Passion for supporting the endoflife rights of people across Canada, while considering cultural differences and diverse perspectives on endoflife care Advanced organizational, planning, analytical and problemsolving skills Experience developing and implementing communications strategies and plans Excellent writing, proofreading and verbal communication skills Experience in writing, planning, designing, managing and promoting stakeholder outreach Proven leadership in managing and motivating volunteer teams Background in media relations and serving as media spokesperson Adept at public speaking Computer literacy necessary, including knowledge of social media, capability with Zoom, Office, and willingness to learn new programs as they are introduced Commitment to inclusivity, diversity, equity, and accessibility Minimum Age: 18 Maximum Age: 100 Police Check: Not required Resume: Required Driver''''s Licence: Not required Proof of Vaccination: Not required Time Commitment This is a Long Term (More than 6 months) commitment starting 2026-03-31 .
