Clinical Educator Temporary Full Time Specialized Geriatric Services Clinical Educator Temporary Full Time Specialized Geriatric Services Reporting to the Manager of Clinical Professional Practice and Education with matrix reporting to the Manager(s) of Geriatric Services, the Clinical Educator will be an integral part of all teams. The Educator is responsible for developing and delivering program-based orientation and clinical education, in accordance with Best Practices, to ensure a high level of clinical understanding and quality care in geriatric services. The Educator will work with the programs leadership team to establish/develop standards of work, policies, procedures, and provide the on-going education around these workflows, including, approved Medical Directives. Duties and Responsibilities Participates and collaborates with the Inter-professional health care team to ensure the provision of patient care is consistent and collaborative across sectors of SAH, with a strong focus on interdisciplinary care models. Compliant with legislation, and organizational and departmental policies, standards, and procedures. Maintain current knowledge of Best Practices for the delivery of care in Specialized Geriatric Services, implementing improvements/changes as appropriate. Participates in ongoing quality improvement for patient safety and satisfaction, as well as legislative and accreditation standards. Ensures teaching, resourcing and coaching specific to the assessed learning needs of the inter-professional team within SAH. Plan, implement and evaluate clinical orientation for new hires. Provides assistance with mentorship planning for new orientating staff, in collaboration with the assigned geriatric team. Attends and actively participates in all unit huddles and staff meetings for all areas of matrix reporting. Support staff in achieving continuing education including higher learning and specialty certifications. Utilize a variety of teaching/learning/communication strategies to meet the education needs of the staff. Participate in development of health teaching materials for delivery strategies to patients and families. Maintain education records as required by hospital policy and standards. Innovative with transforming current practices to digital workflow. Collaborate with leaders on results of randomized audits to assist in analyzing the needs of the department from an educational perspective to help ensure College of Nurses of Ontario standards are met. Participates and collaborates with other healthcare providers in provision of patient care. Effectively uses the Standards of Nursing Practice and the Nursing Process in accessing, planning implementing, and evaluating the care of the patient. Provides assistance in planning corrective actions from an educational lens to ensure safety for patients and staff. Is compliant with legislation, standards and procedures related to occupational health and safety. Cover and support the education needs of other areas as needed. Participate on committees, meetings and working groups as assigned. Other duties and clinical work as assigned. Qualifications Current Registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario Current BCLS certification Experience Minimum 3 years of demonstrated experience in providing education to interdisciplinary staff. Minimum of 3 years experience working within specialized geriatric care and completing assessment and treatment guided by the Comprehensive Geriatric Assessment. Skills Clinical competency in the management and care of older adults in the inpatient and outpatient settings. Proficient in Geriatric knowledge and Senior Friendly Care strategies. Strong interpersonal and facilitation skills. Excellent organizational skills with ability to meet multiple deadlines. Effective communication skills, both verbal and written. Excellent presentation skills. Comfortable with change and coaching others through the processes of change. Proficient in MS Windows, and Meditech. Ability Knowledge of current Best Practices related to Specialized Geriatric Services as outlined by sources, such as the Regional Geriatric Program of Toronto and Registered Nurses Association of Ontario, and knowledge of related organizational models for service delivery. Knowledge of adult learning principals and techniques, and experience in providing formal education to groups and individuals. Demonstrates leadership and knowledge transfer skills. Demonstrates behavior consistent with the hospitals mission statement and core values.
