The Food and BioProcessing Branch (FBPB) provides scientific and technical expertise, business development services and specialized facilities to support product/process development, scale up and commercialization of food and nonfood products for companies serving local, national, and global markets. Role Responsibilities Are you passionate about applying your technical expertise to support innovative projects in the bioindustrial sector? The Processing Technologist role offers an exciting opportunity to work with a dynamic team of scientists and engineers to support clientdriven developmental and pilotscale projects at the Bio Processing Innovation Centre and Bio Industrial Laboratories. Reporting to the Manager, Operations & Facilities, you will: Provide technical support and operational expertise for complex industry projects involving specialized processing equipment. Prepare and ensure the proper operation, sanitation, and handling procedures for equipment and products. Maintain and verify equipment functionality and train clients on its operation. Develop and follow written protocols for shipping/receiving, and review production records in compliance with site requirements. Supervise client activities to ensure adherence to internal and external regulations, including Standard Operating Procedures. Assist in the development, design, and system integration of products and processes in both lab and pilot plant settings, with a focus on biomaterials, polymers, and renewable packaging. Collaborate with clients and team members to develop methodologies, products, and processes, providing practical solutions to achieve project objectives. This role plays a key part in supporting Albertas bioindustrial innovation ecosystem, helping to drive progress in renewable and sustainable technologies. Qualifications Two (2) year technical diploma in a related field, such as applied science, chemical engineering, materials engineering technology, plus Four (4) years related experience in an industrial processing establishment, setting up, operating and disassembling processing equipment. Directly related education or experience considered on the basis of: 1 year of education for 1 year of experience; or 1 year of experience for 1 year of education. Additional Requirements Valid Class 5 drivers license or equivalent. Must be physically able to lift 1823 Kgs. Hands on experience in operating is critical. Assets Knowledge of Alberta Occupational Health & Safety Act, Code and Regulations. Knowledge of chemical and process safety regulations. Knowledge of warehousing, shipping and receiving and a thorough understanding of acts and regulations pertinent to processing are essential. Valid standard first aid certification or willing to obtain. Must be prepared to obtain first aid, WHMIS, Transportation of Dangerous Goods and Forklift Operators certifications. Office is located in Edmonton (552036 Street, Edmonton, AB T6B 3P3). Hours of Work: 36.25 hours per week. Monday to Friday (8:15 to 4:30 pm).
