Overview The Alberta Gaming, Liquor & Cannabis Commission (AGLC) is the Government of Albertas Crown commercial enterprise responsible for regulating gaming, liquor, and non-medical cannabis across the province. Role overview Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer, the Chief People Officer (CPO) is a key member of the Executive Leadership Team and will help shape the future of the organization at a pivotal moment of transformation. The CPO will lead the development and execution of an integrated, enterprise-wide people strategy that strengthens workforce capability, enhances leadership effectiveness, and evolves organizational culture in alignment with AGLCs strategic priorities. This includes oversight of workforce planning, organizational design, succession and leadership development, total rewards, labour relations, employee engagement, and HR operations, ensuring the right structures, skills, and systems are in place to support long-term performance and sustainability. Responsibilities As a trusted advisor to the CEO and Board, provide strategic counsel on workforce risks, organizational health, executive compensation, and people-related governance matters, while ensuring compliance with applicable employment legislation and collective agreements. Collaborate with the executive team to modernize and elevate the HR function as a true strategic partner by advancing analytics, digital capabilities, and service delivery excellence. Champion a people-first philosophy, foster a culture of innovation, accountability, inclusion, and continuous improvement, and position AGLC as an employer of choice. Enable employees to thrive in a dynamic and regulated environment through effective leadership and people strategies aligned with business priorities. Qualifications Strategic and forward-thinking HR executive with success in a senior leadership role supporting the people impacts of major initiatives within a complex, multi-stakeholder environment. Strong track record of aligning people strategy with enterprise priorities and translating long-term vision into practical, human-centered programs that drive measurable outcomes. Influential and collaborative leader who has advised CEOs, Boards, and Executive Teams, led organization-wide people strategies, and driven culture transformation, organizational change, and workforce planning initiatives. Executive presence with the ability to build trust across all levels of an organization; demonstrates inclusive, high-performing team leadership and integration of people strategies with business priorities. Strong business and financial acumen with a values-driven leadership style; capable of empowering teams, building organizational agility, and positioning the workforce for sustained success.
