Job Description

Overview The Financial Counselor delivers excellent patient-centered service by facilitating established financial processes that enable and expedite the billing and collection of professional services. Responsibilities include entering charges, applying coding and billing rules, maximizing collections, verifying insurance, obtaining authorizations for services, reviewing patient account details, and providing financial counseling to patients. This position is accountable for resolving front-end edits, claim rejections, and information requests to help achieve practice goals. The role interacts directly with both internal and external customers and may require floating to other UFHP practices or working flexible hours as needed for staffing. Responsibilities Enter charges and apply appropriate coding and billing rules. Verify patient insurance coverage and benefits. Obtain required authorizations for services. Review and maintain accurate patient account information. Provide financial counseling to patients regarding balances, billing questions, and payment options. Maximize collections through efficient billing and follow-up procedures. Resolve front-end edits, claim rejections, and requests for additional information. Communicate effectively with patients, providers, staff, and insurance representatives. Support practice goals through accurate financial processing and customer service. Float to other UFHP practice locations or adjust work schedules as necessary to meet staffing needs. Qualifications Minimum Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent required. Two years of business, financial, or physician practice experience required, preferably related to patient accounts and collections. A four-year degree may substitute for the required two years of financial/physician office experience. An associate degree or equivalent coursework may substitute for one year of required experience. Excellent communication, organization, and problem-solving skills required. Ability to collect payments and counsel patients regarding financial matters in a professional and respectful manner. Ability to multitask, prioritize responsibilities, solve problems, and work effectively in a team environment. Preferred Qualifications Knowledge of CPT and diagnosis coding.
