Job Title Certified Public Health Inspector Status Temporary Full-Time Temporary - Approximate length of assignment, in months 3 Type of Position a Replacement Start Date Immediately Per hour Salary Grade $50.12 - $54.48 Department York Region -> Community & Health Services -> Public Health -> Health Protection -> HealthProtPublicSafetyProv Location Hybrid work opportunities may apply - CA PH CFH & HP - 17150 Yonge Street, - Newmarket, ON L3Y 8V3 CA (Primary) ABOUT THE ROLE Reporting to the Supervisor, Health Protection, is responsible for monitoring, promoting, and ensuring compliance with Provincial and Regional legislation, as well as Ministry of Health and Long Term Cares Ontario Public Health Standards, under the Health Protection and Promotion Act (HPPA) in order to prevent, eliminate and decrease health hazard impacts and infectious diseases in the Region; carrying out duties in accordance with Divisional, Departmental and Regional policies, procedures and guidelines. WHAT YOU''LL BE DOING Carries out duties, provides public health inspection services in the community and monitors, promotes and ensures compliance with appropriate and related legislation, regulations, guidelines, policies, procedures, protocols and operational standards. Inspects a variety of food premises, all public swimming pools, spas, wading pools and non-regulated water facilities and small drinking water systems. Inspects facilities regulated under the HPPA, such as recreational camps, boarding and lodging homes. Inspects settings associated with risk of infectious diseases of public health importance, such as child care centres, nursing homes, long term care facilities, group homes, homes for the aged and personal service settings. Responds to complaints regarding infection prevention and control practices to determine if there is a risk of communicable disease transmission and potential breach in infection prevention and control. Collects environmental, clinical and other samples, as appropriate, to assess, evaluate, confirm and control an outbreak. Investigates and follows up on all reported potential rabies exposures and dispenses rabies vaccine as required by physicians. Provides telephone consultation and service (e.g., Health Connection) to the community to handle public health inquiries or complaints and initiates corrective action and/or recommends alternative solution, where appropriate. Acts as a Provincial Offences Officer to enforce legislation under the HPPA, the Provincial Offences Act and their associated regulations, including, but not limited to, seizure and issuing part I tickets, part III summons, warrants and orders. Presents training courses and information sessions to educate the general public and specific groups, including school boards, food handlers, personal service workers, child-care providers, care-givers, health care workers, community stakeholders, targeted vulnerable populations, etc., using appropriate teaching aids. Maintains electronic and manual records in accordance with Regional standards. Participates in 24 hour on-call duties and responds to after hours emergency calls on a rotating basis. WHAT WE''RE LOOKING FOR Successful completion of a University Degree in Environmental Health or related field or approved equivalent combination of education and experience. Current Certificate in Public Health Inspection (Canada) [CPHI(C)]. Working knowledge of pertinent regulations enacted under the Health Protection and Promotion Act, as well as the Ontario Public Health Standards, related protocols, directives, guidance documents and operational standards. Valid Ontario Class G drivers license and reliable vehicle for use on corporate business. Knowledge and demonstrated ability in corporate core competencies including customer focus, communication, collaboration and personal ownership.
