Responsibilities PRIMARY PURPOSE Supports the Senior Advisors and project managers in the implementation and integration of safety programs, initiatives, and campaigns for projects and contract activities. Participates in project hazard and risk reviews, and monitors and conducts inspections of project sites to ensure compliance with legal requirements and appropriate management of safety risks. Supports project teams and contractors in committing to a culture of Zero Harm. Key Accountabilities Participates in project hazard and risk reviews throughout the life cycle of the project and for each project phase, providing insight into required safety measures, risk levels, and recommended control measures. Participates in incident investigations and prepares incident reports working collaboratively with project team members including contractors and affected workers. Conducts root cause analysis, recommends corrective actions, and ensures full compliance prior to continuation of project activities. Conducts site inspections, audits, and reviews of Safe Work Plans (SWP) and all other project safety documents. Provides advice and recommendations to align the SWPs with safety and compliance requirements. Supports the provision of safety orientations and hazard reviews at project sites and ensures that contractors are receiving required reviews prior to start of the project and start of their work shifts. Supports BCRTC and TransLink project teams in meeting Prime Contractor requirements, contractor management program requirements, and other requirements as defined in the contractor requirements manual. Participates in projects and activities to enhance organizational performance and support a culture of safety with the focus on Zero Harm. Participates in stopping unsafe work and securing project sites, working with project managers, contractors, and affected workers to ensure full achievement of safety requirements. Acts as first point of contact for project safety inquiries and incidents. Provides advice and assistance to project managers, Asset Integration Office (AIO) staff, work monitors, and contractors on safe work practices, compliance issues, hazard identification, and the implementation of risk mitigation actions. Performs in-field inspections, job observations, safety audits and other types of reviews for the purpose of monitoring compliance to safety requirements and identifying risks. Provides findings about risks and suggestions for improvement. Performs risk assessments to eliminate or reduce hazardous effects on the public, passengers, and employees. Validates corrective actions plans and works with business units on the implementation of those plans. Maintains all safety related documentation and data within applicable databases and other types of information storage systems, including but not limited to incident data, safety concerns, corrective actions, and inspection records. Collaborates with WorkSafeBC, TSBC and other site and regulatory inspectors in presenting project information, supporting site inspections, and addressing any subsequent findings and deficiencies. Qualifications The requirements for this job are typically acquired through a diploma in a safetyrelated discipline, preferably related to construction safety, plus 3 (three) years of progressive experience. Experience in construction safety and/or operational environments and holding a CSO (Construction Safety Officer) certificate would be considered an asset. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. Other Requirements Sound knowledge of safety program, Safe Work procedures, regulatory requirements, and contractor management requirements. Solid organizational and coordination skills along with the ability to coordinate multiple requirements (processes, activities, projects, etc.) simultaneously. Strong communication and presentation skills and the ability to manage challenging interactions, conduct conflict resolutions, and maintain professionalism independently or with limited support. Excellent written skills to write and evaluate safety programs and manuals. Strong interpersonal skills to liaise internally and externally for the purpose of exchanging information and providing guidance on policies and programs. Strong administrative skills along with the ability to maintain and report accurate data. Strong problemsolving skills and ability to exercise good judgement. Advanced working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications. Required to be oncall on rotation basis; required to work evenings and/or weekends when needed. This position works predominately onsite. Rate of Pay The salary for this position ranges from $77,520 - $116,280 per annum. Actual salary offered will be based on education, experience, skills, and qualifications as they relate to the role.
