Today, Cavanagh Concrete Ltd. continues that tradition, offering a safe, supportive work environment. We are seeking an experienced and professional Assistant Controller. This individual is responsible for supporting the organizations financial integrity by managing core accounting functions, overseeing compliance and reporting requirements, and enhancing internal processes. They will lead key activities such as audit preparation, regulatory filings, general ledger maintenance, account reconciliation, financial analysis, and job costing, while ensuring adherence to GAAP, ASPE, and company policies. Roles and Responsibilities Develop audit schedules, gather audit samples, and coordinate with external auditors, ensuring timely and accurate audit completion. Prepare bank compliance reports, and other required submissions. Complete journal entries, maintain the general ledger, and reconcile all balance sheet accounts monthly. Oversee account reconciliations, intercompany reconciliations, investigate discrepancies, and implement corrective actions. Review existing accounting processes and recommend improvements to enhance efficiency, effectiveness, and system integrity. Prepare financial analyses, financial statements, job costing statements, and project-based reporting, especially relevant for construction-related operations Ensure all accounting practices comply with legal guidelines, applicable accounting frameworks (GAAP, ASPE), and company policies. Stay informed on changes in accounting regulations, tax laws, and industry requirements, advising management on compliance matters. Experience and Qualifications Minimum 5+ years progressive accounting experience; experience in construction industry or experience in job costing an asset. Post-secondary education in accounting, finance, or related field. CPA designation completed or in progress (highly preferred). Proficiency with spreadsheets, databases, MS Office and financial/accounting software systems (Vista experience an asset). Strong understanding of GAAP, ASPE, and applicable regulatory frameworks. Skilled in preparing financial statements, analytical models, and compliance reports. Strong analytical, problem-solving, and critical-thinking skills High attention to detail, exceptional organizational skills, and ability to prioritize tasks effectively. However, the range offered is based on local job market factors and may vary further depending on factors specific to the selected job candidate, such as job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and other objective business considerations.
