Overview The Ontario Veterinary College at the University of Guelph invites applications for two contractually limited faculty positions in Small Animal Surgery. Location: Guelph, Ontario, Canada. The Department of Clinical Studies invites applications for Small Animal Surgeons: - Full-time 1-year contractually limited position at the Assistant or Associate Professor level - Full-time 2-year contractually limited position at the Assistant or Associate Professor level Applicants may be considered for a part-time appointment. The anticipated start date is August 11, 2025, or another mutually agreed-upon date in 2025. Qualifications Applicants must have a DVM (or equivalent) and be licensed or eligible for licensure to practice in Ontario. The applicant must be a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Surgeons (ACVS) or European College of Veterinary Surgeons (ECVS). Applications may also be considered from candidates who have completed an ACVS/ECVS-approved residency and are eligible for examination by ACVS or ECVS. A graduate research degree and experience in research and teaching are highly desirable. The ideal candidate should have strong clinical skills in small animal surgery in a team-based environment and outstanding teaching and communication skills. The successful candidate will work with five other board-certified surgeons and five small animal surgical residents, focusing on teaching clinical surgery to DVM students and residents and managing small animal patients and consultations at OV C-HSC. Orthopedic surgery experience is valued; flexibility to support the soft tissue service is an asset. The department is supported by board-certified specialists in medicine, anesthesiology, critical care, diagnostic imaging, oncology, ophthalmology, neurology, nutrition, and cardiology to provide didactic and clinical instruction to veterinary students, interns, residents, and graduate students. The OV C-HSC offers state-of-the-art diagnostic equipment including MRI, CT, digital radiology, ultrasound, arthroscopy, rehabilitation facilities, and a 24/7 intensive care facility. On-call and duties On-call duties are remunerated in addition to base salary, and the schedule will be shared with other surgery faculty, necessitating some orthopedic and soft tissue case management after hours. The candidate is expected to develop and participate in either independent or collaborative research. The successful candidate will mentor and supervise small animal surgical residents and interns on a scheduled basis.
