CUPE Job Title: Registered Practical Nurse Status: Regular Full Time Department: Psychiatry General Program: Mental Health & Addictions 12 and 8 Hour Shifts, Days, Evenings, Nights and Weekends Schedule (Subject to Change) Location: Lakeridge Health Oshawa Wage Schedule: $36.140 - $38.160 per hour CUPE: 2500003590 DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES As a member of an interprofessional team, you will provide clientcentred psychiatric, addiction and general nursing care, ensuring the security and safety of the patients while maintaining the CNO standards of nursing practice. You will be responsible for providing clinical care to patients on the inpatient mental health units, which includes the General unit and Psychiatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU). Working within a primary nursing model, you will actively contribute to the treatment approach for the unit, perform assessments, develop, implement and evaluate the interprofessional plan of client care. QUALIFICATIONS Registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario (in good standing); A current B.C.L.S. certificate is required Registered Practical Nurse Diploma from an accredited community college Minimum of current or 1 year experience in an Acute, Community Mental Health, or Addictions unit/program is required; CNA certification in Psychiatric/Mental Health Nursing is considered an asset Demonstrated commitment to maintaining Reflective Practice Standards as outlined by the CNO; Demonstrated excellent knowledge of, and experience in group theories and dynamics; Demonstrated knowledge of Community Mental Health Resources; Completion of a NonViolent Crisis Prevention or equivalent course, or within 1 month of hire. Completion of a Mental Health Certificate Program preferred with expected completion within 3 years of hire. Demonstrated knowledge of the Mental Health Act, Traumainformed care and Psychotropic medication. Demonstrated understanding of approaches to assessing and management of suicide risk Demonstrated ability to intervene effectively in clinical situations requiring the management of disturbed behaviour Ability to conduct Mental Health Assessment with excellent interviewing and communication skills; Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to develop a therapeutic NurseClient relationship and work within a collaborative and diverse interprofessional team; Ability to work with clients of diverse cultural and social backgrounds is necessary Bilingualism or proficiency in a second language would be an asset; Must have satisfactory performance record; Demonstrated commitment to our core values of Inclusion, Compassion, Innovation, Teamwork and Joy; Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to Lakeridge Health''s comprehensive safety programs and practices including staff, patient and environmental safety and participation in regular inservices in this area CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT The terms and conditions of employment are in accordance with the Collective Agreement between the Hospital and C.U.P.E Local 6364.
