Role Overview Gateway Trailer Repairs LTD is seeking a technically rigorous IS Infrastructure & Network Operations Specialist to oversee our internal Information Systems (IS) and maintain mission-critical uptime . This is a hands-on, 100% on-site role based at our Edmonton facility. You will be responsible for the high availability, failover resilience, and integrity of our server infrastructure, network architecture, and integrated facility systems across four locations . Expected Proficiencies and Duties Outline Critical Uptime & High Availability Operations System Continuity & Power Resilience: Direct responsibility for the 99.9% availability of mission-critical services. Required skills include monitoring UPS (Uninterruptible Power Supply) health, managing power conditioning for industrial sags/surges, and implementing rapid-recovery protocols. Hyper-V Virtualization Resilience & Failover: Orchestration of virtualized environments using Hyper-V. Required skills include managing Dynamic Memory , configuring Failover Clustering for high availability, and ensuring virtual switch (vSwitch) stability. SQL Server Maintenance & Integrity: Maintenance of Microsoft SQL Server. Required skills include managing Transaction Log truncation , monitoring database growth to prevent disk-full outages, and performing scheduled index maintenance. Backup Integrity & Disaster Recovery: Technical oversight of data resiliency. Required skills include monitoring daily success rates for the hybrid backup architecture and performing Bare-Metal Restoration tests. Network, Connectivity & Vendor Operations Hardware Router & WAN Management: Provisioning of hardware-based routers. Required skills include configuring Static/Dynamic Routing tables , NAT/PAT , and managing WAN load-balancing or failover interfaces. Firewall & VPN Tunnel Management: Perimeter defense and connectivity management. Required skills include configuring Stateful Packet Inspection (SPI) rules and establishing/monitoring Site-to-Site IPsec VPN tunnels to link all locations. ISP & Telecommunications Liaison: Primary technical point of contact for service providers. Required skills include managing ISP SLAs, troubleshooting circuit-level outages, and coordinating on-site vendor repairs. SSL Certificate Management: Full lifecycle management of SSL/TLS certificates. Required skills include generating CSRs, managing private key security, and ensuring chain integrity to prevent service interruptions. Server & Application Administration Internet Information Services (IIS) Management: Full-stack administration of IIS 10.x. Required skills include configuring Worker Processes , managing Application Pool recycling parameters to mitigate memory leaks, site bindings, and utilizing Request Filtering . Apache Server Management: Installation and hardening of Apache HTTP Server instances on Linux. Required skills include configuring Virtual Hosts , managing .htaccess overrides, directory directives, and optimizing module loads for resource efficiency. Linux Server (Ubuntu) Management: Administration of Ubuntu Server VMs. Required skills include SSH hardening (key-based auth), package management via apt, system monitoring with htop/iotop, and Systemd unit file management. Industrial Hardware Maintenance: Overseeing IT equipment lifecycle in shop-floor environments. Required skills include maintaining equipment in high-dust/vibration areas, managing NEMA-rated enclosures, and performing diagnostics on ruggedized endpoints. Mobile Device Management (MDM): Administration of mobile assets (phones/tablets). Required skills include utilizing MDM platforms for remote wipe, device enrollment, and enforcing security policies. Network Infrastructure & Documentation: Oversight of the physical/logical network layer. Required skills include maintaining current Network Topology Maps , cable plant organization, and detailed IP schema documentation. Defensive Operations & Security Awareness Cyber Awareness Training Administration: Developing and tracking a formal Security Awareness Training program. Required skills include managing automated phishing simulations and conducting targeted remediation. Symantec Endpoint Protection Management: Centralized administration via Symantec Endpoint Security (SEP). Required skills include managing Host Integrity policies and analyzing threat logs. Active Directory & Group Policy Management: Administration of AD DS within a multi-site domain. Required skills include managing OU hierarchies , auditing GPO Inheritance , and implementing security filtering. Microsoft 365 & MFA Management: Administration of the Microsoft 365 tenant. Required skills include managing Entra ID users and configuring Conditional Access for Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA). Application & Facility System Oversight Customer Portal & ERP System Management: End-to-end administration of external identities and the ERP system. Required skills include profile creation, security role assignment based on least privilege, and providing technical training. Physical Security Systems: Functional oversight of physical security panels and electronic access control. Required skills include zone configuration, troubleshooting communication faults, and maintaining reader/controller hardware. Phone & Voicemail Hardware: Support of telecommunications hardware, including physical deployment of SIP-compatible sets and hardware-level patch panel connectivity. User Support & Performance Enterprise User Support: Providing Tier 1-3 technical service for approximately 200 system users across four locations. Required skills include utilizing remote desktop protocols for real-time troubleshooting. Desktop Ecosystem Management: Deployment and tuning of Windows 11 Pro and Linux desktops. Required skills include hardware-level diagnostic analysis and OS image optimization.
