You will do this by collaborating with an interdisciplinary team of care providers, with an emphasis on the assessment, education, prevention, maintenance, and restoration of patient health. Youre a great relationship builder, and foster close contacts with peers across the entire organization. You have great interpersonal skills, and effortlessly connect with physicians, staff, patients, and families. On a practical level, you will: Demonstrated ability to function to the full scope of nursing practice per the College of Nurse of Ontario Communicate effectively (written and verbal) with patients/clients, families and other members of the health care team Think critically, set priorities and organize work in response to client/patient needs Have skills, knowledge and competency with assisting physician with endoscopy and other procedures. Be skillful in the proper use, care, and handling of the endoscopic and other procedural equipment. Monitor, record, and report symptoms and changes in patients condition during the inter-operative stage of the procedure, collaboratively and in conjunction with the Registered Nurse (RN). Perform additional duties and undertake special projects as assigned. Be experienced in endoscope cleaning and handling and care as well as the setup and turnover of procedure rooms. Demonstrate knowledge of transfers and lifts Be committed to ongoing learning, professional development, and continuous quality improvement Foster good public relations and working relationships in a family centered care environment Demonstrate your ability to perform appropriately in emergency situations Have proficient skill level with computers, MS Word, Internet searches, data entry and patient information systems Demonstrate evidence of selfmotivation regarding continuing education in areas of patient assessment, and patient education. Qualifications A Registered Practical Nursing certification and in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certification required Minimum 2 years Endoscopy Suite experience, required Minimum of 1-3 years of acute postoperative surgical or Operating Room nursing experience preferred Perioperative Nursing Certificate preferred Physical Assessment course preferred Medication Administration course preferred Venipuncture IV certification and phlebotomy skills preferred What We Offer Working at NYGH means working with a dynamic team of fellow healthcare providers, staff, and volunteers in one of Canadas leading hospitals.
