Position Summary Tandem is recruiting for a FULL-TIME POSITION as a SENIOR MECHANICAL HVAC ENGINEER with a minimum of 5-7+ years experience to support our clients'''' projects in our WINDSOR, ON, and DETROIT, MI, locations . Qualifications & Requirements Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering , Mechanical Engineering Technologist diploma, or equivalent experience. Valid P.Eng or CET designation in Ontario , or working toward licensure; or valid P.E. license in Michigan , or working toward licensure. 57+ years of mechanical design experience in HVAC and building mechanical systems. Experience designing systems including HVAC, boilers, chillers, pumps, hydronic piping, ductwork, plumbing, natural gas, and energy-efficient systems . Understanding of consulting engineering project phases , including feasibility studies, schematic design, construction documents, tendering, construction administration, and project close-out. Knowledge of applicable codes and standards such as OBC, NBC, ASHRAE, NFPA, CSA, ASPE, and TSSA. Experience designing for educational, commercial, industrial, or healthcare facilities . Proficiency with AutoCAD, Autodesk Suite, and Revit ; experience with BIM360 considered an asset . Experience preparing and reviewing technical specifications and engineering documentation . Familiarity with heating and cooling load calculations and software such as HAP or TRACE . Experience selecting HVAC equipment and coordinating with manufacturers representatives . Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills with the ability to manage multiple projects. Excellent communication skills , with the ability to explain technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders. Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite . Necessary Requirements for Applicants Hold a valid drivers license with a good driving record Must be able to obtain a work permit in the United States Be willing and able to cross the border, for the required support of our US or Canadian customers Responsibilities The Senior Mechanical HVAC Design Engineer leads the design and coordination of building mechanical systems for complex industrial, commercial, institutional, and healthcare projects. This role provides technical leadership, supports multidisciplinary project teams, and ensures mechanical systems meet project requirements, applicable codes, and industry standards. The Senior Mechanical Engineer is responsible for, but not limited to, the following: Mechanical System Design Lead the design and development of building mechanical systems , including: Heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) Boilers and chilled water systems Hydronic systems Compressed air systems Natural gas systems Plumbing and piping systems Energy conservation and efficiency initiatives Prepare and review engineering calculations, drawings, specifications, and technical reports . Stamp drawings, specifications, and engineering reports where permitted by professional licensure. Conduct value engineering analysis and recommend innovative technical solutions. Seek and evaluate new technologies and design methods to improve system performance and efficiency. Act as mechanical discipline lead on multidisciplinary projects. Coordinate mechanical systems with electrical, structural, and architectural teams to deliver integrated designs. Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior and intermediate engineers, designers, and CAD technicians. Assist in developing project scopes, bid packages, and technical documentation . Manage multiple assignments and ensure projects are delivered on schedule and within scope. Construction Support & Client Interface Provide technical support during construction and commissioning phases. Review shop drawings, RFIs, and contractor submittals for compliance with design intent and project specifications. Conduct site visits and field observations to verify that construction aligns with project documents. Liaise with clients, contractors, and project teams to resolve technical issues and support project delivery. Salary is based on experience.
