Summary The General Manager at 1948 Bar & Bistro, in Ladysmith BC, is a key leadership role responsible for overseeing all restaurant operations, fostering a positive workplace culture, and ensuring a seamless guest experience. The Restaurant General Manager will work closely with the Manana Marina & Resort General Manager to ensure seamless communication between the restaurant and resort operations. This partnership supports a unified guest experience across all areas of the property, maintaining the highest standards of hospitality for marina guests, resort visitors, and restaurant patrons. Key Responsibilities Operational Leadership Oversee the day-to-day operations of the restaurant, ensuring smooth, efficient, and high-quality service. Maintain an active leadership presence on the floor during peak service periods. Lead daily service meetings and ensure staff are aligned on priorities, menu changes, and guest expectations. Manage opening and closing procedures, operational checklists, and service standards. Identify operational challenges and implement systems and improvements to maintain efficiency. Team Leadership & Culture Recruit, train, mentor, and supervise front-of-house staff and management team members. Build a positive, accountable, and collaborative workplace culture. Create and manage staff schedules that balance strong service coverage with labor cost targets. Address team concerns, performance management, and disciplinary matters when necessary. Ensure clear communication between front-of-house and back-of-house teams. Guest Experience & Hospitality Ensure exceptional guest experiences that reflect the hospitality standards of Manana Marina & Resort. Act as the primary escalation point for guest feedback or service recovery situations. Monitor guest feedback, online reviews, and service trends to continually improve operations. Support special occasions, private events, and large party experiences to ensure memorable service. Financial Performance & Reporting Monitor and manage key operational metrics including sales, labor costs, beverage costs, and profitability. Prepare and review weekly and monthly operational reports for ownership. Ensure scheduling, staffing levels, and purchasing decisions align with financial goals. Identify opportunities to increase revenue through service improvements, upselling strategies, and menu performance. Inventory & Purchasing Monitor restaurant inventory levels and ordering systems. Work with suppliers to ensure quality products at competitive pricing. Manage purchasing of beverage and front-of-house operational supplies. Collaborate with the Head Chef to support cost control and inventory efficiency. Food, Beverage & Menu Collaboration Collaborate with the Head Chef on food and beverage offerings to maintain consistent quality and guest satisfaction. Develop and refine beverage programs including wine selections, craft cocktails, and seasonal offerings. Work with the culinary team to support pairing concepts and menu presentation. Support menu rollouts, staff training, and guest-facing menu knowledge. Events & Special Experiences Coordinate closely with the Events Coordinator to ensure successful execution of restaurant and resort events. Support planning and service execution for private dinners, group bookings, and special dining experiences. Ensure proper staffing, preparation, and service flow for events hosted within the restaurant or resort. Additional Responsibilities The Restaurant General Manager also oversees the coordination of dining experiences for marina guests, resort visitors, and private vessel service, ensuring that all food and beverage offerings reflect the same high standards of hospitality across the Manana Marina & Resort property. Compliance & Operational Standards Ensure compliance with all health, safety, and liquor licensing regulations. Maintain operational policies, procedures, and service standards. Support development of systems, training materials, and operational documentation to strengthen consistency. Qualifications Proven experience as a General Manager, Food & Beverage Manager, or similar leadership role in the hospitality industry. Strong leadership and team development skills with the ability to inspire and manage diverse teams. High emotional intelligence and exceptional interpersonal communication abilities. Strong organizational and multitasking skills in a fast-paced environment. Solid knowledge of wine, spirits, and beverage program management.
