Job Description

GEI is seeking an intermediate civil engineer to contribute to the growth of our land development and water resources team. You will work collaboratively with a talented group of design, management, and technical leaders, taking on increased responsibility in delivering land development project involving grading & drainage, servicing, municipal infrastructure, stormwater management and road network and transportation engineering projects. This team handles projects of varying scale, guiding them from conception and design, through construction and certification. This position will support GEIs civil engineering practice and may include opportunities for client engagement and project leadership. Lead and develop civil engineering projects including site grading & drainage, public & private servicing, stormwater management, road reconstruction projects and infrastructure designs for land development projects. Support the planning, preliminary design, and detailed design of municipal and provincial transportation infrastructure projects, including roadway alignments, intersections, active transportation facilities, and traffic control systems; assist with traffic studies, transportation impact assessments, and functional design reports; and provide contract administration and site review support during construction Mentor junior staff and review AutoCAD Civil 3D work. Perform stormwater hydrological & hydraulic modelling, including Low Impact Development (LID) systems. Prepare detailed design calculations for rural and in-town servicing, including municipal water, sanitary and storm sewers, on-site sewage systems, and other servicing systems. Develop and evaluate multiple design alternatives and provide recommendations. Coordinate and respond to review agency comments and requirements. Attend and contribute to meetings with clients, review agencies, and project teams. Analyze collected data and prepare technical reports, letters, and memoranda. Assist with proposal preparation and project planning. Prepare construction specifications, tender documents, and support construction oversight. Collaborate with senior project managers, project team staff, and clients to ensure successful project delivery. Provide field support and construction inspection as required. Minimum Qualifications 58 years of professional experience in civil engineering and consulting, with exposure to land development, municipal design, and stormwater management projects. Bachelors Degree in Civil Engineering or a related field from a recognized Canadian University. Has obtained or is eligible to obtain P.Eng. in Ontario or currently pursuing licensure. Strong technical report writing and communication skills. Experience with stormwater modelling software (e.g., HEC RAS, PCSWMM, MIDUSS, OTTHYMO) is an asset. Proficiency in AutoCAD Civil3D is an asset. Willingness and ability to travel to project/client sites as required. Ability to perform field tasks and site inspections; night and weekend work may be required. Physical and environmental requirements for this position are available upon request. Preferred Qualifications Valid Ontario drivers license with access to reliable transportation. Proficient in Microsoft Suites (Office, Word, Excel, Outlook etc.). We are seeking candidates who are located within a 45-minute commute of the Owen Sound office or who are open to relocating to Owen Sound or the surrounding area. This role requires working within an office setting, during regular business hours and being comfortable in a dynamic, fast-paced office environment. While hybrid work is permitted, regular, consistent presence in the office is an essential component of mentoring and teaching of junior staff. On occasion, overtime work or work outside of normal operating hours may be a requirement. Willingness to take on a project management role for small, medium and large scale projects.
