For more information about the Library and what we offer, visit Employment opportunities at the Library of Parliament.Job DescriptionReporting to the Manager, Integrated Library Systems, the Systems Librarian is responsible for leading the integration of the ILS by providing recommendations to management, leading training sessions, and executing long term systems projects/initiatives. They also provide day-to-day support for ILS and catalogue users leveraging their knowledge and expertise to inform clients, provide immediate remedies.The incumbent performs the following duties:Proposes and implements new business processes for various activities performed with the ILS in response to feedback from users or management direction.Ensures that the Librarys discovery interface is the most up to date, efficient and effective search interface possible.Leads analytics and statistics related initiatives, using ILS analytics module. Develops new analytics products and capabilities working with directly with stakeholders.Provides technical professional expertise, support and is responsible for the development and delivery of training to Library staff and other authorized users on the ILS.Works with the Integrated Library System Officer to improve ILS capabilities and respond to more complex issues by analyzing options and drafting recommendations based on business requirements.QualificationsEducation:A masters degree in library science or an acceptable combination of education and relevant experienceExperience:Experience working with an integrated library system including using administrative functions such as configurationsExperience applying cataloguing standards and principles such as MARC21, RDA, authority control practices, and descriptive vocabularies.Experience using analytics products, producing reports, creating visualizations to develop data-driven reports and visualizations that support operational planning and decision-making.Experience providing technical support, training and guidance to system users, clients and external stakeholdersExperience analyzing system issues, identifying root causes, and recommending improvements or solutions related to library systems or workflows.Knowledge:Knowledge of discovery, search engines and best practices in configuration of search toolsKnowledge of business processes of library collections (acquisitions, cataloguing, collection management, circulation) and how they interact.Knowledge of integrated library systems, including the administration/configuration of an ILS to improve work processesKnowledge of computer concepts related to networks, codes, exchange protocols, internal database structures, and operating systems and their components, such as HTML, XML, CSS and othersKnowledge of current trends and best practices in library discovery systems and library technologies.Knowledge of change management principles related to implementing new systems, workflows, or procedures.Competencies:AdaptabilityClient FocusEmbracing DiversityExemplifying IntegrityInformation and Knowledge Resource ManagementQuality Focus Attention to detailTeamwork Analytical ThinkingPlanning and OrganizingAsset Criteria:Experience with various IT infrastructuresExperience in Project ManagementExperience in leadership of projects and/or teams.Knowledge of change management.Experience working with vendors or external service providers related to library systems or technology solutions.Conditions of Employment:A second-language evaluation (Bilingual staffing imperative): CBC/CBCA successful pre-employment security screening.Second language self-assessment test:To help you decide if you should apply to a bilingual position, an optional self-assessment of your written expression and reading comprehension in your second official language is available for you to take before completing your application.Try out the self-assessment tests for written expression and reading comprehension by visiting: https://www.canada.ca/en/public-service-commission/services/second-language-testing-public-service/self-assessment-tests.htmlInformation on language requirementsAdditional InformationPlease include a cover letter with your application describing how you meet the education and experience requirements of the position.
