Role Summary Were looking for a hands-on HR Generalist who can run day-to-day HR support across the business and strengthen how we operate as we grow. Youll be the main point of contact for most HR questions and employee relations matters, support office hiring when openings arise, own employee engagement surveys & initiatives, and help improve HR processes so leaders have clearer tools and fewer escalations. Youll also be trained as payroll backup coverage during vacations. Key Responsibilities 1) HR operations and day-to-day support Act as the first point of contact for HR questions from employees and leaders Maintain accurate employee records, HRIS updates, and documentation standards with strong confidentiality. Support employee lifecycle administration, from onboarding to offboarding, with documentation Admin employees leaves and accommodations. 2) Employee relations and manager support Triage and manage day-to-day ER matters and guide leaders through consistent next steps. Coach managers on documentation, progressive discipline, and respectful communication aligned with company values. Lead investigations (low-to-medium complexity), summarize findings, and recommend actions; escalate sensitive/high-risk matters appropriately. Maintain clear, timely documentation for all ER actions and ensure follow-through to resolution. 3) Recruitment Lead end-to-end hiring for office and retail management roles when vacancies arise: intake, posting, screening, interviews, references, offers, and onboarding handoff. Use structured interview tools and scorecards to improve consistency and quality of hire. Maintain organized pipelines and provide timely, professional updates to candidates and hiring managers to support a strong candidate experience. 4) HR process improvement Identify recurring HR/people problems and simplify how we work through practical tools: SOPs, templates, checklists, trackers, and manager toolkits. Improve consistency across core workflows (hire-to-onboard, ER documentation, employee changes, offboarding, etc.). Track HR metrics (e.g., hiring cycle times for office roles, ER case themes, response times) and provide recommendations that improve speed, clarity, and compliance. Drive adoption by communicating changes clearly and coaching leaders on the why and how. 5) Employee engagement Plan, execute and report on employee engagement initiatives/events/surveys aligned to our values and budget. Support action planning and follow-through with leaders so employees see improvements and trust the feedback loop. 6) Payroll backup coverage Cross-train on payroll processes to provide coverage during vacations/absences. Maintain a payroll backup checklist/runbook and complete coverage runs accurately and on time when required. What Success Looks Like Leaders and employees receive timely, practical HR support and clear answers. ER issues are handled early, fairly, and with clean documentation and follow-through. HR workflows become simpler and more consistent; fewer issues get stuck or escalated. Office hiring runs smoothly when openings occur, with a strong candidate experience. Engagement events and surveys are executed well, with visible follow-through. Payroll coverage can be provided confidently when needed without disruption. Qualifications 36+ years of HR Generalist experience in a fast-paced environment (multi-site retail/warehouse/operations is a strong asset). Working knowledge of Ontario employment standards and HR best practices; Alberta exposure is an asset. Comfortable coaching managers and handling sensitive ER matters with little oversight Strong documentation skills; Highly organized with strong follow-through. HRIS experience preferred (ADP is an asset).
