Job Description

The Controller will oversee daily accounting operations while managing a team to support the business. Key responsibilities include exposure/credit risk management, job costing analysis, month-end and year-end close and reporting processes. This role also involves leading special projects, recommending and implementing process improvements while ensuring compliance to minimize risk and optimize efficiencies. This role requires a hands-on professional who thrives in a fast-pace industrial/service business environment and enjoys improving processes, working closely with different departments in operations, sales, engineering and the leadership managing team. Responsibilities Supervise and manage a team handling AR & AP and Business Support/administration Provide training, mentorship and performance feedback to team members to ensure efficiency and accuracy in operations Complete month-end close/roll and prepare the financial statement including JEs as well as notes to the financial statements ensuring accuracy and adherence to deadlines Maintain the integrity of the General Ledger Complete the year-end process, including preparing detailed working papers and ensuring compliance with the Corporate office reporting requirements and deadlines Liaise with the Corporate Office regarding mid-year and annual audits/reviews Support the GM and the leadership team in a strategic capacity. Lead in establishing, monitoring and enforcing internal controls based on corporate guidelines Maintain and communicate financial metrics (Backlog, Job Loss, KPIs) Collaborate with the leadership team on strategic projects including preparing Overhead Rate analysis and submitting for approval for the various plant locations Identify, recommend and implement process improvements to enhance accounting operational efficiencies and reduce risks Monitor & Assess Exposure/Credit Risk in conjunction with the VP of Finance to ensure the entities remain risk-averse and minimize exposure Implement and maintain policies and procedures to safeguard the company from potential credit losses Collaborate with senior leadership as required to evaluate customer creditworthiness and recommend appropriate credit terms for new and existing customers Perform job costing analysis and job closing to ensure accurate tracking of costs and reporting of job-related profits Provide insights to key stakeholders by analyzing and commenting on variances Maintain Fixed Asset register ensuring additions and disposals are appropriately accounted for including monthly depreciation expense Prepare ROI analysis for potential Capital expenditures Experience, Qualifications & Attributes Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal Bachelors degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (CPA or CMA preferred) 7+ years of progressive experience in accounting experience required Financial statement preparation Strong knowledge of ASPE/GAAP and cost accounting principles Experience in small business or manufacturing & industrial service environment desired Advanced Excel skills; familiarity with accounting/ERP systems (e.g., QuickBooks, NetSuite, Xero, or similar); SAP, EPICOR knowledge as an asset Ability to analyze data, interpret trends, and present financial insights clearly Extremely detail-oriented with the ability to follow up on items or determine appropriate steps for timely resolution Ability to deliver excellent service at all levels internally and with external partners and stakeholders and to work independently and collaboratively across departments We thank all interested parties but only those selected will be contacted to move forward.
