THE ROLE The Human Resources Generalist provides comprehensive Human Resources and Occupational Health & Safety support in a unionized environment and serves as the first point of contact for employees seeking assistance with HRrelated questions or concerns, ensuring issues are handled promptly, confidentially, and in accordance with company policies, the collective agreement, and applicable employment legislation. This role supports employees, supervisors, and managers by ensuring the consistent application of collective agreement provisions, company policies, employment legislation, and Occupational Health & Safety requirements. The position plays a key role in employee relations, recruitment, training, HR reporting, and the administration and continuous improvement of HR and OHS programs. RESPONSIBILTIES Employee Relations Provide support and guidance to employees and management regarding HR and Safety programs, policies, procedures, collective agreement obligations, and regulatory requirements. Support grievance and absenteeism management processes, including documentation review, meeting preparation, and followup actions. Maintain appropriate and confidential records of employee, supervisor, and manager conversations, investigations, and outcomes. Assist with workplace investigations, disciplinary processes, and attendance management while ensuring procedural fairness and consistency. Participate in and support the disciplinary process, absenteeism management, and grievance response processes. Provide employees with information regarding job duties, working conditions, wages, benefits eligibility, training, and internal opportunities. Support supervisors and managers by clarifying employee-related concerns and providing practical guidance aligned with company policy and employment legislation. Assist with ad-hoc HR and Safety projects as required. 2. Human Resources Information Systems (HRIS) & Reporting Maintain accurate employee records within the HRIS. Compile and analyze people-related metrics and reports, including performance reviews, training compliance, employee relations issues, injuries, absenteeism, and turnover. Support continuous improvement through data analysis and reporting. 3.Training & Development Conduct HR and safety orientations and onboarding sessions. Coordinate, deliver, and track HR and OHS training as required. Maintain job descriptions and training records; identify and report areas of non-compliance. Perform gap analyses to identify training needs and support the development and rollout of training programs. 4.Recruitment & Retention Follow the recruitment approval process and manage full-cycle recruitment activities. Develop and post professional job advertisements internally and externally. Review resumes, screen candidates, conduct phone screens, and participate in interviews as required. Coordinate second interviews, testing, and reference checks. Prepare employment agreements and offer documentation. Maintain recruitment databases and metrics. Conduct exit and employee feedback interviews and provide analysis to support corrective action and continuous improvement. Support career fairs, community events, and employer brand initiatives. 5.Organizational & Departmental Development Support company mission, values, budgets, goals, and objectives. Assist with the development, review, and maintenance of HR and OHS policies and procedures. Prepare reports, correspondence, and documentation related to HR and Safety initiatives. Demonstrate teamwork and a commitment to ongoing professional development. 6.Occupational Health & Safety Maintain awareness of Occupational Health & Safety legislation and make recommendations for program implementation and improvement. Ensure timely and accurate completion of incident, injury, and near-miss reporting and documentation. Support supervisors in the administration of toolbox talks and safety meetings. Assist supervisors and managers with attendance management, returntowork coordination, and the consistent application of company policies and collective agreement provisions. Provide administrative and record-keeping support for incident investigations, safety observations, risk assessments, and corrective actions. Support the Joint Health & Safety Committee (JHSC) as required. Lead by example by practicing and promoting safe work procedures at all times. 7.Other Duties Perform other duties as assigned in support of HR and OHS operations. QUALIFICATIONS Post-secondary education in Human Resources, Occupational Health & Safety, or a related field, or equivalent experience. Minimum 35 years of progressive experience in Human Resources; OHS experience considered a strong asset. Strong knowledge of labour and employment legislation and government policies (e.g., Employment Standards, Labour Relations Code, Human Rights). Working knowledge of Occupational Health & Safety legislation and best practices. Ability to handle highly confidential information with professionalism and discretion. Excellent interpersonal, communication, and active listening skills. Strong organizational, time management, and attention-to-detail skills. Problem-solving, decision-making, and critical-thinking abilities. WORK ENVIRONMENT This position is primarily office-based but requires regular visits to the production floor.
