Position Summary The Investment Associate will be an integral member of a lean investment team responsible for supporting the full lifecycle of private markets investing (including investing in funds, as well as directs and co-investment opportunities). This role combines manager due diligence, portfolio monitoring, research, and investment analysis across asset classes including private equity, private credit, growth equity, CLOs, venture capital, and real assets. The Associate will also play a meaningful role in the development and ongoing management of a new multi-asset evergreen fund of funds vehicle. This includes work related to manager selection, portfolio construction, liquidity management, pacing analysis, and performance tracking. The vehicle will primarily focus on income-oriented private strategies. The ideal candidate brings strong analytical capabilities, sound investment judgment, experience evaluating private market opportunities, and the ability to communicate insights clearly and professionally. Key Responsibilities Support end-to-end diligence of private market funds, including review of data rooms, performance analytics, reference calls, market mapping, and preparation of diligence summaries Lead screener calls with new relationships, as well as IDD and ODD calls for projects in advanced diligence stages Evaluate fund investment strategies, benchmark their track record against PMEs / competitors, and analyze their portfolio construction approach, risk management processes, and investment terms Support in the selection of publicly available proxies to private market exposures with lower risk / higher liquidity as Tier-2 liquidity options for the evergreen fund Assist in preparing investment memos, summaries, and presentation materials for internal committees and stakeholders Portfolio Monitoring and Reporting Monitor existing private markets investments, including review of quarterly reports, capital account statements, financial statements, and operational updates Track fund performance, NAV changes, and key KPIs across the portfolio Prepare portfolio level summaries, conduct risk analyses, review exposures, and draft performance presentations for leadership and clients Create and maintain spreadsheets while working with internal diligence & portfolio management databases to forecast liquidity needs, monitor portfolio distributions, and track performance attribution for the evergreen fund of fund Supporting Direct Investments Assist with underwriting and analysis of direct and co-investment opportunities, including modeling, valuation, and investment memo support Evaluate company fundamentals and unit economics, including growth and retention, margin and cash flow drivers, and competitive positioning Review and summarize key transaction terms and documentation, including term sheets, subscription agreements, shareholder agreements, and investor rights Support execution and post-close monitoring of investments, including diligence coordination, KPI tracking, valuation updates, follow-on analysis, and preparation for exit or secondary opportunities Research and Market Insights Conduct thematic and sector research across private equity, venture capital, private credit, real assets, and structured credit markets Stay current on trends in alternative investments, fundraising activity, valuation environments, macroeconomic conditions, and competitive dynamics Internal Collaboration and Process Support Work closely with the CIO and broader August Group team to maintain strong investment processes and disciplined documentation Support relationship management with external managers, administrators, and service providers Contribute to workflow improvements, standardization of templates, and efficiency enhancements across the investment function Qualifications Experience and Education Three to five years of experience in private markets investing, investment management, investment consulting, private equity, private credit, or related fields Bachelors degree in Finance, Economics, Accounting, Business, or another analytically rigorous discipline CFA designation or progress toward the designation considered an asset. Technical and Analytical Skills Strong understanding of private equity, private credit, venture capital, real assets, and alternative investment structures. Proficiency with investment research and diligence tools including PitchBook, Preqin, and AlphaSense Advanced Microsoft Excel skills. High level of comfort with financial modeling, performance analytics, and cash flow analysis.
