Were looking for a Band6 Police Liaison Practitioner to join us and help ensure individuals in crisis receive timely and appropriate support. Job Summary We are looking for someone confident, compassionate and resilient, with experience in risk assessment and supporting people with complex mental health needs. Crisis or liaison experience would be an advantage, but what matters most is your ability to work collaboratively and uphold our values. You will work 12hour day and night shifts as part of our 24/7 rota, based between the Police Patrol Room and our HomeBased Treatment Team office. In this role, you will triage police logs, provide advice, and at times attend incidents in the community to support officers, complete assessments and plan care. You will work closely with police colleagues, families and carers to deescalate situations, manage risk and guide people to the right services, helping to reduce unnecessary use of Section136. Responsibilities Support calls to individuals and attend incidents in the community with officers to facilitate comprehensive mental health assessments and care planning. Advising on appropriate pathways and signpost to various agencies, reducing the need for police interventions and avoiding use of Section136 where appropriate. Conduct risk assessment, develop care packages, document plans and strategies to manage risk, involving service users, police, families and carers. Work independently, manage workload under pressure, and provide specialist advice and service to the police when indicated. Provide mental health information that is proportionate to achieve the best outcome for the person. Participate in the development and practice of policies and procedures, adhere to NHS and NMC guidelines. Support training and supervision of junior staff, maintain detailed written and electronic records. Promote and disseminate evidencebased practice within the liaison field. Qualifications (Essential) A professional qualification at degree level or equivalent in mental health nursing or social work. Current registration with the relevant professional body. Experience of carrying out complex risk assessment and developing comprehensive care packages. Experience of working independently at senior level, supervising others, and working in community settings. Working knowledge of the MHA1983, CPA and other relevant codes of practice. Clear and concise written and verbal communication skills. Skills in specialist assessments, negotiation, engagement and teamwork. Qualifications (Desirable) Training in P.S.I., C.B.T. or HCR20. Recognised qualification in clinical supervision. Experience of substance misuse, relapse prevention and use of assessment tools. Supporting Learning in Practice (SLiP) or equivalent mentorship qualification and evidence of mentoring activity. Experience (Essential) Experience of working with people who are difficult to engage, having developed theoretical and practical knowledge of severe and enduring mental illness. Ability to be flexible, adapt to changing situations, and travel across the Trust as appropriate. Substantial experience in community settings. Experience of supporting carers and families. Experience of supervising and mentoring other staff. Experience (Desirable) Experience or training in research. Personal Attributes Flexible, selfmotivated, and able to work UNSOCIAL hours. Prioritise workload and work well within a multidisciplinary team. Ability to work with partnership agencies. Travel flexibility within the Trust.
