Assistant Controller Category: Accounting / Finance Location: Edmonton, AB Work Type: Permanent / Full Time Posted On: Mar 13, 2026 Description Assistant Controller Our client is seeking an Assistant Controller to oversee daytoday accounting operations, strengthen internal controls, and mentor a small accounting team within a professionalservices environment that includes general and trust accounting. The ideal candidate will bring strong technical accounting capability, proven experience supervising accounting staff, and a track record of improving processes and documentation. Your success will be defined by your ability to: Lead, coach, and crosstrain a small team of accounting clerks while fostering collaboration and accountability Oversee daily accounting operations, including AP/AR, GL maintenance, writeoffs, disbursements, and monthend procedures Complete high-volume bank and credit card reconciliations and ensure trust accounting accuracy and compliance Produce clear, ontime financial reporting packages (weekly, monthly, quarterly, annual, and ad hoc) with variance analysis and practical recommendations Maintain robust documentation and internal controls that align with regulatory and professional requirements Support indirect tax filings and yearend activities for both general and trust ledgers Provide responsive service to internal stakeholders and external partners, including banking relationships Drive process improvements and workflow automation to increase accuracy and efficiency Act as finance systems leadtroubleshoot issues, train users, and support an upcoming accounting system upgrade Your strengths include: 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, including at least 2 years in a supervisory capacity Postsecondary education in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline; CPA completed or in progress considered an asset Demonstrated fullcycle accounting experience, including GL, reconciliations, statements, and close routines Handson trust accounting exposure and familiarity with compliance in a professionalservices context Advanced Excel proficiency and confidence working with accounting/ERP software (experience documenting SOPs and improving processes) Clear written and verbal communication skills with a service mindset and the ability to build productive relationships High attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and the agility to adapt to shifting priorities in a dynamic environment If you are interested in this role and meet the above criteria, please click the '' Apply '' button to send your resume directly to Rob Mella.
