Your opportunity The Office of the Registrar and Student Services team is the studentfacing administrative unit that consists of Recruitment and Admissions, Records and Enrolment, Registrarial, Financial and Advising Services as well as all Career Services. Reporting to the Assistant Dean, Registrarial and Student Services, the Financial Aid and Awards Officer is responsible for the financial advising, support and guidance for all undergraduate and graduate students at the Faculty of Information. Working closely with academic and career advisors, the incumbent provides financial and award support such as award and loan opportunities, workshops, educating and informing prospective and current students of available funding options, applications support, as well as sharing the potential consequences when students are unable to fulfill their financial obligations. Additionally, the Financial Aid and Awards Officer will provide leadership and support in awards creation, administration and communication. As a member of the Registrarial and Student Service team, the incumbent will work collaboratively with the entire student services team, business office, advancement teams as well as colleagues across the university campus, while taking initiative to address specific student award or financial aid program and administrative issues with minimal direction. Your responsibilities will include: Advising students on financial aid/award matters by probing and providing a range of options, possible outcomes and detailed information in various areas including but not limited to funding opportunities and resources, application policies/procedures and key deadlines Reviewing and approving student requests for fee deferrals, refunds, and appeals for exceptional cases Implementing plans to support the delivery of student financial aid and awards programs, analyzing processes and recommending changes for more efficient coordination of operations Assessing and making recommendations on student funding applications and the appropriate disbursement of funds, tracking and monitoring distribution of awards, and interpreting and applying academic and government financial aid rules to ensure students meet requirements Facilitating educational workshops and seminars in addition to developing learning outcomes for workshops and/or services Providing proactive support to individuals in distress and making referrals to specific university services Scheduling committee meetings, preparing for meetings (e.g. generating standard reports, assembling information packages, etc.), and providing advice to committees regarding financial awards allotments Updating and maintaining database records and following rules and procedural processes related to Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (FIPPA) Essential Qualifications: Bachelors Degree or acceptable combination of equivalent experience Minimum four years of work experience providing financial aid and awards counselling in a postsecondary environment to graduate and/or undergraduate students from diverse backgrounds, preferably within a university registrars and student services office Knowledge of and experience interpreting and applying postsecondary and government financial aid programs, policies, and procedures Demonstrated ability to identify and assess systemic barriers that limit student access to financial aid Experience administering and assessing a high volume of grant, scholarship, and award programs in a complex postsecondary environment Experience monitoring and reconciling award accounts Experience developing and delivering presentations and workshops Excellent computer skills, including proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel and database programs (e.g. student information systems such as ROSI/ACORN) Excellent oral and written communication skills with strong interpersonal skills and clientservice orientation (e.g. students, faculty, staff, donors) Strong attention to detail, time management, organizational and problemsolving skills Familiarity with FIPPA (Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act) Demonstrated ability to work within a team environment and also independently Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality, tact, and discretion Assets (Nonessential): Experience with FIS (Financial Information System), and website management Familiarity with administrative systems/ databases (e.g. Online Admissions Application, Nolij, JOIN, Slate, Cube, FIS etc.), and Enrolment Services File Share Knowledge of University of Toronto policies and procedures To be successful in this role you will be: Approachable Diligent Organized Resourceful Responsible Tactful Team player Thoughtful Closing Date: 03/30/2026, 11:59PM ET Employee Group: USW Appointment Type: Budget - Continuing Schedule: Full-Time Pay Scale Group & Hiring Zone: USW Pay Band 12 -- $81,312. with an annual step progression to a maximum of $103,986.
