Position Overview Amico Affiliates is seeking an experienced Payroll Manager to lead and oversee the full-cycle payroll function across multiple entities. This role is responsible for ensuring accurate, timely, and compliant payroll processing for salaried and hourly employees, including unionized and non-unionized staff within a complex, project-based environment. The Payroll Manager will play a critical role in compliance with employment standards, construction collective agreements, remittance requirements, reporting, and internal controls, while leading payroll system optimization and continuous improvement initiatives. The role will collaborate with HR, Operations and Finance to ensure seamless payroll execution. This position reports to the Corporate Controller. Key Responsibilities Oversee full-cycle weekly payroll processing for multi-entity operations. Ensure accurate calculation of earnings, deductions, liabilities and benefits in accordance with employment contracts, collective agreements, approved company rules and directives, statutory requirements and authorized direction. Process and manage payroll for hourly, salaried, unionized, and project-based employees. Review payroll registers prior to final submission and reconcile payroll information to accounting records. Verify the completion of accurate remittances within prescribed filing deadlines. Manage the timely processing of ROEs, terminations, and year-end reporting activities. Interpret and apply union agreements and company benefit plans. Confirm payroll compliance with employment standard, Canada Revenue Agency and provincial requirements, workplace safety obligations and construction-specific regulations. Monitor and implement changes in payroll legislation, collective agreements, benefits programs, and industry regulations. Coordinate internal and external audit requirements. Maintain and optimize payroll systems and reporting tools. Implement policies and process improvements to enhance efficiency, accuracy, and internal controls. Partner with HR and Finance to ensure seamless integration of payroll, benefits, and accounting systems. Lead and mentor payroll team members. Act as the primary point of contact for payroll escalations. Collaborate with Project Managers, HR Business Partners, and Finance teams to ensure payroll accuracy across projects. Provide reporting and analytics to leadership on labour costs and payroll trends. Qualifications & Experience 7+ years of progressive payroll experience, preferably in construction or project-based environments. 2+ years in a leadership or supervisory role. PCP or CPM designation (National Payroll Institute) preferred. Strong knowledge of union payroll and collective agreements. In-depth understanding of Ontario payroll legislation and CRA regulations, as well as other jurisdictions. Experience with Oracle or other ERP payroll solutions is preferred. Advanced Excel skills and strong analytical capability. High attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
