Help Build the Future of Mass-Timber Construction! Element5 designs and manufactures advanced mass timber components used in commercial and residential buildings across Canada. We are looking for a Mass Timber Structural Engineer to join our growing design team and contribute to innovative timber projects that prioritize sustainability, efficiency, and high-quality engineering. Openings: 1 About the Role: As a Mass Timber Structural Engineer, you will lead and contribute to the structural design and detailing of mass timber buildings across Element5 projects. Youll work closely with our CLT and Glulam production teams to ensure designs align with manufacturing and assembly requirementshelping streamline processes and improve efficiency. As our design team grows, youll also play an important role in developing internal tools, resources, and systems to support advanced mass timber engineering. Responsibilities: Perform structural design and analysis for mass timber structures in compliance with Canadian codes and standards. Develop prototypes, building profiles, and connection details that support efficient fabrication and assembly. Mentor junior designers and review calculations, drawings, and models to maintain quality and consistency. Develop and improve internal design tools to enhance efficiency and standardization. Balance customized project requirements with product-focused design aligned with manufacturing capabilities. Collaborate with production, project management, and other teams to integrate design with fabrication processes. Provide technical guidance to clients and internal stakeholders. Apply sustainable design principles, optimizing material use and environmental performance. Qualifications and Skills: Strong understanding of building codes, standards, and regulations related to timber construction Knowledge of CLT and Glulam design with experience applying Canadian codes and standards Ability to mentor junior designers and support knowledge sharing Strong collaboration skills and ability to work with cross-functional teams Comfortable in a fast-paced environment with evolving priorities Proactive, solution-focused mindset. Education & Experience: Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering (Masters or PhD considered an asset) 25 years of structural design experience Experience with gravity and lateral design per Canadian codes and standards Experience in wind and seismic analysis for multi-storey structures P.Eng designation is an asset Interest or background in mass timber construction What We Offer!
