Job Description

CG Hylton Inc. is assisting with facilitating the recruitment and hiring process on behalf of Mowachaht/Muchalaht First Nation. Overview This role leads marine and fisheries projects for MMFN, including fisheries, shellfish, habitat restoration, and aquaculture initiatives. The Marine and Fisheries Project Manager coordinates planning, funding, regulatory requirements, partnerships, and field operations to support community-informed stewardship outcomes. Success in this position requires strong project management, technical, and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to translate complex information into clear recommendations. This full-time, on-site position offers 63 hours bi-weekly and a competitive annual salary ranging from $80,000 to $90,000, based on education and experience. A comprehensive benefits package and pension plan are included. Location The Mowachaht/Muchalaht First Nation, a territory located on the beautiful west coast of Vancouver Island. Duties and Responsibilities: Lead marine and fisheries projects from planning through completion, including work plans, budgets, schedules, procurement, deliverables, risk management, and reporting. Coordinate field programmes, technical studies, research activities, consultants, contractors, permits, logistics, and environmental review requirements, while ensuring timely delivery and adherence to safety protocols. Provide day-to-day project oversight and technical guidance to staff, consultants, and partners engaged in fisheries, shellfish, habitat restoration, aquaculture, and related marine initiatives. Identify and pursue funding opportunities from government, Indigenous, sectoral, and other funding sources; prepare proposals, budgets, and supporting documentation. Produce clear reporting, briefing notes, technical summaries, presentations, and recommendations for management, funders, and partners, and maintain systems to track financial performance, deliverables, and compliance obligations. Build and maintain effective working relationships withCFIA, WHAs, WLRS, NSWS, and DFO,together with other regulatory, stewardship, research, and sector partners, and collaborate on policy, permitting, and project development matters. Support project delivery for MMFNs Shellfish Farm and related marine initiatives, including operational coordination, monitoring review, field data analysis, and follow-up actions in support of fisheries, shellfish, habitat restoration, and conservation priorities. Facilitate knowledge-sharing, community engagement, and outreach related to marine and fisheries initiatives, and communicate updates to community members and stakeholders in a clear and professional manner. Ensure all work is carried out in accordance with applicable safety, ethical, operational, and regulatory requirements, and evaluate project outcomes, lessons learned, and opportunities for continuous improvement. Minimum Qualifications (Education / Training / Certifications): A Bachelors Degree in Fisheries and Aquaculture, Fisheries Biology, Marine Biology, Aquatic Ecology, Ocean Sciences, Environmental Science, Natural Resource Management, Resource and Environmental Management, or a closely related discipline is required. An equivalent combination of education and directly related experience may be considered. A Masters degree in a related discipline is considered a strong asset. Minimum five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in marine, fisheries, environmental, shellfish, aquaculture, habitat restoration, or Indigenous stewardship project delivery is strongly preferred. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Demonstrated experience in project planning, budgeting, funding administration, grant and proposal writing, regulatory coordination, procurement or logistics oversight, and technical and management reporting is required. Strong project management, grant-writing, technical writing, stakeholder engagement, presentation, and interpersonal skills, together with the ability to analyze technical, regulatory, financial, and operational information and provide sound recommendations. Ability to lead multiple projects simultaneously, work independently and collaboratively, maintain appropriate confidentiality, and engage tactfully with community members, partners, contractors, and agencies. Working knowledge of fisheries management, shellfish or aquaculture operations, habitat restoration, environmental compliance, coastal field coordination, and data-informed decision-making is preferred. PMP designation, RPBio registration, or eligibility for a comparable professional designation is an asset. Other: RCMP Clearance not older than one year. Valid drivers license Work is performed primarily in an office setting, with regular coordination meetings, occasional travel, and fieldwork as required.
