MacEwan University is seeking an Exercise Specialist I for a full-time continuing opportunity with our Sport and Wellness department. Reporting to the Supervisor, Fitness Centre and Programming, you will be responsible for designing and delivering health and fitness assessments, exercise prescriptions, programs and facility monitoring with the overall goal of meeting the health and wellness needs of all patrons of the centre, including students, athletes, staff, faculty, and public clientele. Key responsibilities include: - Executing comprehensive Fitness & Health Assessments and counseling sessions according to the guidelines of the Canadian Society for Exercise Physiology (CSEP); - Organizing, developing, administering and monitoring specialized testing contracts for special populations, sport organizations and corporate clients; - Preparing and instructing a variety of drop-in group fitness classes such as spin, aquatic, muscular strength and endurance, HIIT, and boot camp style classes; - Designing and instructing specialized group health and fitness related classes with academic components such as Women Building Futures and Health & Community Studies Fitness Lab for Police, Investigations and Call Centre programs; - Acting as a liaison with the appropriate medical personnel (physician/physiotherapist) when medical concerns are involved with clients; - Monitoring the fitness area, including walk-throughs and completion of required stats recording, equipment cleaning, maintenance/repairs, and set-up; - Completing appropriate forms, bookings and responding to inquiries about MacEwan Centre for Sport & Wellness; - Assisting with complaints and concerns while referring clients to policies and procedures of the Centre; - Responding to any security issues or emergency situations as outlined in the policies and procedures manual; - Administering First Aid, CPR, AED and Oxygen when required; - Providing recommendations and suggestions on all aspects of the operation, including input into employee evaluation; and - Assisting with the design, implementation and promotion of internal and external Sport and Wellness programming, as well as special events and/or workshops. Skills You will have: - Strong interpersonal skills, with a commitment to customer service and the ability to work with a diverse range of individuals; - Strong written and verbal communication skills; - The ability to work independently with strong self-discipline and motivation; - Problem solving and creativity skills; - Excellent organizational, time management, and prioritization skills; - Knowledge in exercise program development and fitness testing, with the ability to prescribe exercises to meet client needs; - Strong presentation skills; and - Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications. Qualifications - A minimum of a 2-year diploma in physical education or other health related fields. - A minimum of 6 months of experience in a fitness work environment with group or specialty class instruction. - Experience with delivering workshops. - Certified as a Personal Trainer with the Canadian Society for Exercise Physiology (CSEP-CPT) or the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM-CPT). - Current certification with Standard First Aid, CPR, Automated External Defibrillation (AED), Oxygen Administration. - Certification through the Alberta Fitness Leadership Certification Association (AFLCA) in the specialty of Group Fitness (or equivalent group exercise certification like CanFit-Pro) or in Resistance training certification would be considered assets. - An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. Position Requirements - The ability to work primarily on Monday to Friday between 5:30 am and 10:30 pm. - The successful incumbent will be required to obtain a Police Record Check with a Vulnerable Sector Check at their own cost.
